@Izzie,
k.... gonna have to do this in Izzie language....

not sure what maths you do... so... this may be a cinch...

If The White Knight is standing 100 m from a tower and the angle subtended by the very top of the big tower, where the princess is sleeping, with the ground is 30 degrees, how high is the tower in inches.

(I may have totally mucked that up but hey..... give it a go a?) Wink

@Izzie,
This one is a cinch...
The tower is 100/sqrt(3) m high, but you asked for it in inches:
2,273.03 inches

whose a clever fella then http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk41/LzzieIzzie/images-1.jpg

I had 2,273.22835 inches, but to a more well rounded person, that would be 2,273.03!

mmmmmmm..... have to find something a little harder a? Wink

@markr,
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....

HOW DID YOU DO THAT????

Combinatorists do it as many ways as they can.
Combinatorists do it discretely.
(Logicians do it) or [not (logicians do it)].
Logicians do it by symbolic manipulation.
Algebraists do it in groups.
Algebraists do it in a ring.
Algebraists do it in a field.
Analysts do it continuously.
Real analysts do it almost everywhere.
Pure mathematicians do it rigorously.
Topologists do it openly.
Topologists do it on rubber sheets.
Dynamicists do it chaotically.
Mathematicians do it forever if they can do one and can do one more.
Cantor did it diagonally.
Fermat tried to do it in the margin, but couldn't fit it in.
Galois did it the night before.
Mobius always does it on the same side.
Markov does it in chains.
Newton did it standing on the shoulders of giants.
Turing did it but couldn't decide if he'd finished. Shocked

how good are you http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk41/LzzieIzzie/images-1.jpg

my oh my... surely hoping the Blue will return soon to tax that brain of yours!

Meanwhile:
Mathematician: Pi is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter.
Engineer: Pi is about 22/7.
Physicist: Pi is 3.14159 plus or minus 0.000005
Computer Programmer: Pi is 3.141592653589 in double precision.
Izzie: You one track math-minded fellows, Pie is a delicious dessert!

will go and try to find something a little more stimulating for you....

<quickly dashes out, gathers kindling, rubs flints together, lights fire, grabs damp blanket, sends smoke signal SOS to Blue to hurry on back and give Markr a decent riddle!>

<calls fire brigade to put out blanket which is now on fire>

<oooh... 10 firefighters arrived>

<tea and pie all around>

<what was the odds of that happening!>

@Izzie,
Standing on top of a Tor on Dartmoor, there is a long hike to find our ship at a Devon coastal village. To get to our ship and check the Bosun is taking care of the chores, I’ll have to trudge across the moors in my pink polka dot wellies from where I am. This will not be an easy yomp. On a hike like this, I need to enlist my sturdiest crew but each crewmember can only backpack enough chocolate and biscuits for five days, and there is no way we can go any further than 30 miles in one day. The Yabber Liner is 120 miles from the where I’m at. Please tell me the fewest number of deckhands, including moi of course, that I’ll need so we can get back to the ship, have a nice overnight visit to a hotel (possibly a jacuzzie, massage and some champagne), and then return to my Tor without ever having to run out of chocolate.

I think I have given you all the information…. If not…. Oops! Embarrassed

Mission Chocolate Run: how many deckhands do I need?

@Izzie,
I made some assumptions about the first three 2-letter words and the first word. For the most part, they were correct. It was downhill from there...

Mission Chocolate Run:

I make it you will require just two crew to support you in your quest.

I would suggest you take Dutchy and Rocky!

Dutchy makes one day and leaves his sack of 4 days’ supply and returns to base. (30 miles)

You and Rocky re-stock with a full (5) days’ supply; leaving 2 and set off.

Day 2 (60 miles) Four days’ supply each

Day 3 (90 miles) Three days’ supply each. Rocky leaves one days’ supply and returns (2 days to collect one of the two days’ supply at first stop.

Day 4 Lizzie makes it with one days’ supply left. (120 miles)

Day 5 Lzzie returns to the one days supply left by Rocky. (90 miles)

Day 6 Lzzie reaches 60 mile mark without any food.

In the meantime Dutchy in days 3 and 4 has reached the 30 >60 mile mark with three days’ supply.

Day 7 they both reach the 30 mile mark (with one days supply)

In the meantime Rocky, in day 7 has returned to the 30 mile stop with a fresh supply; and they all returned to a tumultuous welcome and lived happy ever after….

Or did they?

So now I am thinking of a number…
Half of the number, added to a fifth of three less than the number, is equal to two thirds the number.

What is the number Question
