Joining the site with different log in names makes the stats look better and also throws off how correct they really are.

two triangles intersect forming a star of david. each edge has 4 points - 2 apexes and 2 points of intersection and the whole design has 12 such points. arrange the numbers 1 through 12 on these points so that the sum on each edge is the same.

your answer checks out but is different from mine (not mirror image nor rotation). is there an algorythm to finding a solution? keep going... i wonder how many there are.

~ Hi Hal.
I know newbie's must seem dumb to you, and I do not seek to change your mind.
However, I offer for your consideration the following:

Whilst digging in a 4,500-year-old burial mound at Xiaguan in Yunnan province in central China, a parchment was found sealed inside a clay vessel for its owner to take with him on his journey to his ancestors. The parchment talks of a traveller, getting lost on a mountain, and whilst seeking safety sees two old men sitting by a fire next to the entrance of a cave. As he approached, he overheard the last part of their conversation, and he later recorded it thus.

Mr Riddle puzzle me in and puzzle me out.
Riddle me dark from the cave to shout.
The question is easy the answer is not.
It lives in the future that has yet to arrive.
I would if I could I could not and died.
Had I have lived I would have not lied.

Mr Puzzle riddle me left riddle me right.
Puzzle me bright from the fire to light.
The answer is easy the question is not.
It lies in the past that time has forgot.
Do I just jest or do I jest not.
I know the truth do I or do I not.

What was the question and answer?

Howdy folks, I have been a bit busy of late and apologize for my scant offerings. However, I hope to return later to address matters.

Slippy writes, "let's see, that's 2 miles of highway and 3 or fewer potholes"

TTH writes, "Tryst your question has to do with probability & mean and I don't do mean so you have to wait for someone else to answer"

As the queen of mean; let me help you out…

The number of potholes of miles of highway has a Poisson distristribution with a mean of 3. The number of potholes in two miles of highway would have a Poisson distristribution with a mean of 6.

The probability of x potholes in two miles of highway is e^-6*6^x/x!.

The probability of 0 potholes is e^-6*6^0/0! = e^-6.
The probability of 1 pothole is e^-6*6^1/1! = 6*e^-6.
The probability of 2 potholes is e^-6*6^2/2! = 18*e^-6.
The probability of 3 potholes is e^-6*6^3/3! = 36*e^-6.

Take the sum the answer is 61*e^-6 =~ 0.151204 .

This answer was formed with thanks from the May 1982 Actuary Exam.

About the same as a grudge match between Bigfoot and a Cyclops. However, Philip Morris (PM) Cigarettes don't have the smooth cool taste of Marlboro! (Smoking Kills).

For you sweetie:

He Left Me With The Herpes - Lyrics

He left me with the herpes,
Oh, why did he do that?
Last night, I sat upon a chair and gave it to the cat.
The cat gave it to Rover
And to the mousie too
The mousie gave it to the bird,
I don't know what to do!

A mother said her son
Was a nice boy and refined,
It must have been another boy
Certainly not mine,
That darling mother's mistaken;
He's the only boy I knew
Since Rooselvelt won the elction in 1932!

He left me with the herpes,
Even roaches won't come near.
Mosquitoes will not bite me 'cause they sense my blood's not clear!
My chamber maid is suing,
And taking me to court,
She cleaned my room the other day,
And you know what she caught!

I left her with the herpes,
Like it was left for me,
And there are many listening to this song who have the same, you see.
The only good advice I give is take a book to bed.
And let him take blood test every day that you are wed!

He left me with the herpes.
I don't know what to do.
My life's a social wreck.
Boo hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo!
If anybody out there can come up with a cure,
I'll be the very first in line, on that you can be sure!

How are you doin' Tiny Tim?

Thank you Miss mi, you are just too kind; are you looking to adopt?

Anybody I missed out…good luck smiles on you!!!

Hi ho! Here we go; almost back to normal…

"Oh Try you have such a way with words, and here I was thinking you were just a numbers guy"

Baby; I have your vital statists…and I like those numbers!!! Razz

Jove, it is great to see you have got a good job and will soon have some money in your pocket to treat yourself; just don't forget to put some aside for a rainy day.

I am sure you all know the old riddle about the camel and bananas; well, this is a modern high tech version:

It is your task to deliver as much grain as possible from city A to city B. The cities are 1,000 miles apart.

You initially have 10,000 pounds of grain. Your camel may carry up to 1,000 pounds and eats 1 pound of grain per mile traveled.

You may leave grain along the way and return to it later.

How much grain can you deliver to city B Question
