Aw, thanks you, dear Piffka! But don't you know?: Teachers are not loved & honoured until YEARs after the event! And then, only sometimes! But it's not so much the lack of love at work, it's the sheer amount of required work & so little time to do it just as one would like. Sometimes it can seem like trying to move mountains with a feather. <sigh>

Maybe. But maybe, over time, defeats turn into victories? Very Happy Now there's a good thought!

Life is a conundrum, in't?

Here is today's quote:

"...there are particular moments in public affairs when the people, stimulated by some irregular passion, or some illicit advantage, or misled by the artful misrepresentations of interested men, may call for measures which they themselves will afterwards be the most ready to lament and condemn. In these critical moments, how salutary will be the interference of some temperate and respectable body of citizens, in order to check the misguided career, and to suspend the blow meditated by the people against themselves, until reason, justice, and truth can regain their authority over the public mind?"

- Federalist #63, The Senate, Hamilton or Madison

(Ed. note: Gee, that 'Senate' thing sure sounds like it would be a handy deal - where do we go to get one of those?)

"There has been a molecular arms race going on between transposable elements and their host genomes for millions of years.
"Host genomes are continually evolving new regulatory mechanisms to silence the mutagenic effects associated with the replication of these elements which, in turn, place selective pressure on the elements to evolve mechanisms to escape these controls.
"The result is an internal drive mechanism to increase biological complexity."

Hi to piff and all the other delightful quoters...

Here's another example of a Texan in power showing clear focus and thoughtfulness.....we wish.

NYT quote of the day, Oct. 19, 2005

"What's the deal here? Why do costs outstrip inflation? A college education is one of the most expensive and important things you'll ever buy, and, yes, it's still a good value, blah, blah, blah, but you can find out more about a lot of other products."
MARGARET SPELLINGS, secretary of education, on tuition increases.

Ack! It occurred to me that she might not be from Texas. If not, she has developed Texas speak from her time in the White House.

Thanks Blue... glad to see another person here. Very Happy You're not my old friend K.T. Blue are ya?

Hi Diane. Yep, I saw that quote. Amazing. I don't know if she's a Texan either.

Here's yesterday's... Mr.P had a busy day and didn't send these out until last night. This morning's quote is a cartoon and I'm trying to figure out how best to add that here. (Or just not bother... though, it is such a good 'un, it'd be worth the trouble of finding it on the 'net, I think.)

<ahem>

"...we are entitled to make almost any reasonable assumption, but should resist making conclusions until evidence requires that we do so."
