If someone asked you, "What makes you tick?" what would you say?

As I near 50 yo I find the only things that really make me feel alive anymore are sex, beautiful women and food...eating/preparing/running food service. Good hooch, a good cigar and a good argument, preferably all at the same time, ain't a bad way to pass the time though..

@Arella Mae,
answering seriously, I would say that personal pain keeps me ticking. without pain I believe I would have surrendered long ago. Perhaps I just need an adversary internal or external, I hate to lose.

What used to make me tick and what makes me tick now are very different.

Now breathing in both directions, not falling down, and not getting any scary reports from doctors make me tick.

(Note: my tock is still not working right.)

You could pull an adversary out of thin air if you thought you wanted to, so all you are saying is that you have the will to live. I have never heard any explanation for why some of us have it and some of us dont. Some people curl up and die with almost no provocation, and I look and them and think WTF!

These people are spiritually dead before they are physically dead...I knew a guy growing up that spent almost twenty years killing himself after his beautiful wife left him and took the kids...but he did not give up, and was finally successful. It would have been a lot more simple if he had not been Catholic

I love the answers I am getting from humorous to very serious. I don't know why I started thinking about what makes people tick. I can think of long responses but I think the thing that really makes me tick is gratitude. Things I've been through and survived.....................I am so grateful!

dys, you hang in there. I'm sorry you have pain but you also have Lady Diane and I know she takes good care of you.

@Arella Mae,
What makes me tick is the thought that the world is like a huge toy store, and that there are always new and interesting things to do and learn.

I wrote this once, a while ago, and keep it on my desktop so I can shape myself up if - well, when - I get down in the dumps -

Beauty interests me. Not so much beauty as it is often thought of, such as a spectacular sunset, although that too, but beauty in the life around us. Corn on the cob, yes, I see that as beautiful. Weeds can be beautiful. The movement of a cat. The way a paperclip looks, the way a paperclip works, how someone thought of that. The way things fit together. The way things fit in opposition. They way things mesh. The way things swirl, in a painting, or voices in conversation. The way things or events or ideas clash. The way words look on a page. The way words sound to the ear or in the mind. The way words can fit together as an idea.

Which is to say, my life is motivated by everything, by being part of it.
