I have no earthly idea. But if someone who knows me well would like to venture a guess, go right ahead.

(I'm not very interested in self analysis.)

@Eva,
Hah Eva, I saw the other day a movie with an actress named Ann Jillian,
and she looks exactly like you.

I get that a lot. (Not that particular actress, just a general comment.) I must have a very ordinary face.

@Eva,
I don't know you well, but I'd say that history -- witnessing, making, and preserving it -- is just one of the many things that makes you tick.

I don't understand the question.

Seriously, I've been reading along to see what other people say in response and I still don't have a clear understanding what "What makes you tick" means. Is it the things that get you up in the morning? The things that inspire you? The things that influence how you react to what you see and hear? All of those? Something else entirely?

Sure, I've heard the phrase before, but I really don't know what it's truly asking.

@JPB,
it's interesting, i don't always associate the question with a positive tone, usually it seems to be asked in a situation where someone has done (or does) something out of the ordinary

as for what makes me tick, i wish i knew

As I've read this thread, I've come to the same conclusion. Obviously, ticking means different things to different people, and I'm no longer sure what it means to me.

Maybe I should have been clearer in my "what makes you tick" question. I guess a better way to put it would be "what makes you, you"?

@Arella Mae,
If we didn't want to answer your question, we wouldn't.
