Part of Dag's painting reminds me a lot of one of my early paintings that I kept around because I liked it - for decades. Just recently binned it in cleaning out for the move. I don't know if I have a photo or not.

Vivien, I like the first two pieces re the harlequin for the push of the paint, all full of directional force.

I am crazy for the landscape and moderately envious of your loose but right-on touch. We have, as you know, many of the same interests. I love the depth of field, heh, in that landscape, and the vibrance of the colors colliding in the sky's light.

I've always liked that signature line as well Dag Very Happy

Yes, as jln says it's good and it's interesting and you should continue. Playing with textures is good and if you learn to glaze one colour thinly over another so it shines through a bit like stained glass - you'll get colours it's impossible to name or create from mixing.

Warning: it is terribly addictive

Cryla paper (comes in pads in various sizes, including pretty big), is another cheap way of working with acrylics, The paper has a canvas-like texture and is primed so it doesn't buckle and warp with wet paint.

.... and when you are really addicted .... buying canvasses mail order in boxes of 10 saves a fortune Very Happy

JLN - yes it was cold Crying or Very sad It was a lovely day with passing clouds that created wonderful shadows across the land but by the time we'd sat out for about 3 hours we suddenly Very Happy

I look at some of these hardy painters in Canada and North America who paint out in the snow and think NO WAY to that! I do draw the line at that degree of cold and snow.

I just met with a real estate broker who needs architectural renderings of new townhomes going up in Atlanta. I'm particularly excited about this project because architectural drawings and renderings have always fascinated me and if I get the assignment, it would be a great addition to the repertoire. Yay! Very Happy

Vivien!! Wow!! The plein air one especially, but all of them really.

Would love to see what you come up with, eoe.

Oh man, every time I peek in here I get the painting bug but good -- no time for it, though. :-(

eoe-I used to earn good money doing architectural renderings back in college(Thats like 30+years ago) and Ive always incorped air brushing into the vignettes. Sometimes id include a "small sketch detail" in the rendering to show soe neat point. The sketch detail I always got clients approval before trying it out. Nowadays, blending a computer shot of the surroundings and then jacking in the building is pretty much routine. Its ok but never really highlights the building as well as an old fashioned rendering.

That's what they did originally, pasted a not so pretty illustration of the townhomes atop an actual photograph of the area. I think the same technique can be done alot better than what they have but it takes someone who really knows how to blend photography and illustration (like me Very Happy )

Old fashioned rendering, my business partner got her start doing that. Figured out by her questions that designs didn't work. Ended up doing the designs. And so on.

woop! not been here for a while but i thought i'd come check how everyone was getting on. anyway, i've just started work for my first exhibition. over the past 9 months or so i've become affiliated with a collective in the uk called 'sketchcity', we run nights in clubs, bars, gigs and festivals where we do art demo's and provide pens and boards so the public can join in. we are about to take a residency at the contact theatre and gallery in manchester in may and i should have my exhibition up in june/july! woohoo! if anyone fancies popping in then come say hello Very Happy

Sounds interesting, Benjamino. I love non-conventional ways of showing work. Welcome back, and please let us know how your exhibition goes.

Right now me and friend are collaborating on this project where we paint on 12" x 16" pieces of 1/2 inch plywood (sinister cartoon faces). Then we coat them in weather proof epoxy (very thick) take them out into the woods on a trail and install them higher up in a tree so if by chance sombody looks up they will see a professional quality, high gloss finished face looking at them. Then we can go back and visit them. We do this in the city too. Then we monitor wich ones survive and for how long. We also monitor peoples reations.

Ben that sounds great - how about posting some images?

You too Amigo?

I've got several shows in April/May to work towards and other stuff possible.

I've been trying to get into the print workshop to print a collagraph and a lino print for the last few weeks and life keeps conspiring against me Sad I'd go today but there's a class on and so members can't use it Sad

hey amigo that sounds like a really good idea, i'd love stumbling thru the woods and findind some artwork in a tree, a friend of mine is halfway thru doing some 10 x 12 canvases and sticking them around manchester in the most awkward places he can find to see how long they last.

JL and vivien, thank you for the interest Smile i appreciate it. i have no pics at the mo cuz my camera is busted and my scanner is too but if you wanna check some of my stuff out try my deviantart page...... http://benarminojoe.deviantart.com/
i'd love to hear comments/suggestions/criticism if anyone has time to take a glance Smile

benjamino, I just checked out you stuff. Very cool. My friends do the same kind of stuff (Graffiti). We are in Long beach California.

We also take rocks and spray paint them with realistic gold spay paint with a cartoon character on it and place them around town randomly. Then we watch people find them. Little kids act like they have found a very mysterious treasure like it's real gold.
