Besides fostering a spirit of inquiry/an inquiring spirit, the remarkable curricular opportunities which the college provides, including various student clubs and organizations for sports, arts and culture, will help me explore life beyond academics.

Which phrase in bold is better?

Thanks in advance.

This is telling a reader that this college mentors people with curiosity. A 'spirit of inquiry' summons ideas of boring government commissions going over forensic accounting data. An inquiry asks for the truth an inquiring mind wants to learn.

The second one.

And please don't use "academics" like that.
