@JPB,
Yeah. He's a really weak candidate, both intrinsically and in how he stacks up against Obama.

Which is why I'm rooting for him in SC. Smile

But for him to end up the nominee, Romney would have to pretty spectacularly implode. I won't make any firm predictions because Romney has shown that he might be capable of spectacular implosion, but I think it's far more likely that Romney will end up being the Republican nominee.

Yeah. My bones know that Newt won't make it to November.
He was superbly articulate in the debate.

@OmSigDAVID,
He was superbly arrogant and condescending, meaning he was pure Newt.

He stands for principles of severely limited government = personal freedom.
I expect to vote for THAT. He is much stronger than the last GOP nominee.

Mitt SPEAKS in a conservative manner (sometimes),
but I suspect him (strongly suspect him) of hypocrisy.

Has anyone yet noted that today is an anniversary to celebrate? Exactly 15 years ago -- 21 Jan. 1997 -- House Speaker Newt Gingrich was reprimanded and fined for his ethical misconduct. First time in history that the House of Representatives disciplined its own chosen leader for ethics violations and misconduct!

@OmSigDAVID,
No, he doesn't. He's an egomaniac who sees himself in the seat of power. He stands for divisiveness and confrontation and is the creator of the mess we have in Washington today. Newt epitomizes everything that is WRONG with our government.

The tax returns/Caymen Islands issue does raise an interesting (but unlikely) possibility.

If Mitt has the delegates and then his tax returns released in April show he broke the tax laws, what will the GOP do? If Mitt is forced out or willingly steps out of the race, who will the GOP nominate at their convention?

@JPB,
amen to that! Why can't conservatives see what "we" see? Can't they see our country being diminished by the GOP-No Party? Their continued advocacy for more tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy are destroying this country's infrastructure and educational systems. Are they that blind?

I hope to see him there too.

Those are OK,
as long as the collectivist authoritarian side LOSES.

@OmSigDAVID,
I never thought you would be one to run David.

"Stand and shoot it out" seems to be more your motto.

Mitt's been running for President for 6 years now. I don't think there will be anything illegal in his returns. What I do think they will highlight is how totally unfair the tax code is and why the OWSers have a point. Mitt is as 1% as they come. It's going to be hard for the Republican base to get behind him. I don't think he has much enthusiastic support. I do think he'll be the eventual nominee but, depending on who America Elects comes up with as a third party candidate, I don't think he can carry the general election.

@JPB,
I'm not so sure about that! The republicans are good at having a blind eye to contradictions within their own party. The evangelicals continue to advocate for restrictions on abortion (nothing like their meme about less government intrusion into private lives), discrimination against gays and lesbians (love thy neighbor, but don't allow them equality), and vote for people like Newt. a racial bigot (calling Obama the food stamp president - which implies that blacks are on the dole from the wealthy).
