@realjohnboy,
(Sorry. I got interrupted by phone calls).
The nation's economy will likely be the top issue in SC and nationally. In IA and NH, the unemployment rate (U3) is around 5.3% vs 8% nationally. But in SC it is 10%.
(As an aside, on the economy thread we use U6 which includes people who have jobs but not the hours per week they want. Nationally it is 16%. I think the rate in SC is around 20%).
Beyond the economy, social issues from abortion, immigration etc will likely play a big role. No one wants to talk publicly about Mormonism. Believe me. It is there.
The governor, Nikki Haley (R), got elected due to in large part to Tea Party support. She has endorsed Romney. The TP is pissed at her.
The 1st poll of SC is out: Romney (23%); Gingrich (21%); Santorum (14%); Paul (13%); Huntsman (7%); Perry (5%); Undecided? (17%).
The poll is of 750 likely Repub voters which leaves open whither the indies go.

Thank god I live in nice, uncontested CA

Is it better though? I mean, that GOP candidates don't try in CA means that they tailor their platforms to anything but you. You don't get to be a factor to what they build on. Isn't it better to be in a bell weather state and have them fearful of what you may do?

Could have worded this better, but hopefully you get my idea.

Nah, because they don't give a **** about me and never will - just as they don't care about the Dems in Iowa or NC or VA or SC - at all.

When you get as liberal as I am, you forfeit any hope of influencing the other side, lol

Big Cannons Loose On The Deck:
I mentioned yesterday that some of the Repub candidates seemed to be trying to back off of violating the 11th commandment: Thou shalt not attack a fellow Republican.
It does not seem to be working very well, does it?
The problem is the Super Pacs which are willing to spend millions of dollars for, or more likely against a candidate. The money involved is huge and the candidate is supposedly not allowed to control the message the Pac is communicating.
John McCain decried the uncontrolled influence the Super Pacs have.

@failures art,
I don't how anyone can accurately measure the desire of Republicans now vs that of the Democrats in 2004, but you asked me if I think the former is greater than the latter, and I answered yes. Of course it might not be so, but it easily could, and it's what I believe.

How can you so blithely conclude that the GOP is the underdog when polls were just released that show Obama trailing Romney and only slightly ahead of Ron Paul?

Of course Republicans will be on the defensive more than Obama. Obama has a billion dollar arsenal, and the mInstream media in his back pocket. I suppose I could whine that this makes them the underdog, but I don't believe so.

I don't know where else I can think, but in my mind, but in there, when I think about the debates, I don't think Obama will fear them no matter who the GOP candidate may be. Quite the contrary. I think, in my mind, that he will be quite cocky about winning them and that this will hurt him when the time comes.

Sorry if I dont buy in to your narrative deist, but your insinuation that I am being intellectually dishonest for the sake of appearance in this forum is rather arrogant and unattractive.

@Lustig Andrei,
Yes, are you?

That's quite a theory you have. I think it's well off the mark but hope I'm wrong.

If I am they are some pretty stupid disaffected Democrats.

No matter how large their number it will never carry Huntsman to victory.

But even sadder that so many who do take the time do so so poorly.

@realjohnboy,
How do you know the Tea Party is "pissed" at Haley for her endorsement of Romney?

I assume, rl, that we are meant to take it that you consider yourself one who has taken the time to educate yourself.

What does "many people" mean. Is it that aggregate of persons of whom it is said there is one born every minute and you are distancing yourself from as a dowager might from those who eat meat and potato pies in the street?

Many people assume rather than researching their candidate.

I concede that the word "pissed" doesn't show up in articles. Try googling in
"nikki haley teaparty romney endorsement"
I stand by my claim.
There is an article from Reuters. Can you find it?

A new Newt ad against Romney notes that he, like an earlier MA politician (Kerry -D), speaks French.
I am not making this up.

I 'd love to see Ron Paul be the new President,
if it were not for his peacemongering; its too dangerous.

If it were up to me,
I 'd probably choose Newt.

ANDERSON — The latest poll of South Carolina voters suggests that Mitt Romney’s lead has evaporated, leaving him in what amounts to a statistical tie with Republican rival Newt Gingrich.

An automated survey of 776 likely voters conducted Wednesday by InsiderAdvantage found that 23.1 percent supported Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, and 21.3 percent were backing Gingrich, the former U.S. House speaker. The poll’s margin of error is plus or minus 4 percentage points.

Former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum was in third place with 13.5 percent, closely followed by U.S. Rep. Ron Paul at 13.3 percent, according to the poll, which was commissioned by The Augusta Chronicle and The Savannah Morning News.
