(Just ahead of "someone else"...)

Cain's narrowly in the lead for now but his support from women took a big hit.

Man, people really don't like Romney.

@sozobe,
If the votes of the ones eliminated going from the bottom of the table upwards are divided between the remaining candidates I think Herman Cain has no chance at the end.

@sozobe,
I think Cain was dead meat when the first report of his inappropriate behavior was first reported. The 2d and 3d reports only proves the point that he's now blowing in the wind.

@cicerone imposter,
You may be right. However all of this stuff, even if it is true, doesn't add up to half of what was charged (and in several cases proven) about Bill Clinton. The argument then was that such matters of personal behavior aren't politically significant.

It is ironic to observe the the stark difference in the standards applied to Black political figurtes who stray off the political plantation prescribed for them by their liberal puppet masters. Clarence Thomas and Herman Cain are seeing the results.

@sozobe,
And this one put Gingrich ahead of Cain.

Quote:
Among Republican and Republican leaning independents, here is how the contest stands:
• 23% for Mitt Romney
• 19% for Newt Gingrich
• 17% for Herman Cain
• 10% for Ron Paul
• 8% for Rick Perry
• 5% for Michele Bachmann
• 1% for Jon Huntsman
• 1% for Rick Santorum
• 17% are undecided

@georgeob1,
I'm speaking as someone who was thoroughly pissed at Bill Clinton, but I don't think the situations are analogous.

Bill Clinton engaged in consensual sex with women. He was married, he was a politician, he was (with Lewinsky) President -- it was idiotic at best and extremely sleazy at worst.

But what Cain is accused of is more about sexual assault. Pushing unwilling women's heads in his lap.

It's not all proven yet, so it's also not analogous that way -- Clinton definitely had sex with that woman. We still don't know exactly what's up with Cain, but it looks like there are a row of shoes ready to drop rather loudly.

Meanwhile, I think the black thing is a complete strawman.

What about Anthony Weiner, or Larry Craig, or Elliot Spitzer (to name just a few)? They certainly got reactions for their misdeeds.

@JPB,
Looks like better and more realistic poll to this observer.

@georgeob1,
Not so sure about Cain being black as the underlying issue; many white politicians have lost their bid for office based on their sexual indesgerssions.

@cicerone imposter,
I don't know... The CBS poll soz posted is from "Republican Primary Voters" and the M-M poll I posted is from "Republicans and Republican-leaning Independents". The only thing that matters in the end is the vote total so the CBS poll may be more representative of an outcome if the primaries were all held on the same day and that day was a couple days ago.

@georgeob1,
You really can crack me up. Who were the liberal puppet masters of Clarence Thomas and Herman Cain? Come on, O'George, admit it . . . you just make this ship up as you do along.

The trending tells me that Cain is losing to what most believed about who the final front runners will be come next Nov.

@sozobe,
If it's "not all proven yet" soz how do you arrive at Mr Cain "Pushing unwilling women's heads in his lap"? Seems like you want to believe it to me. Since when did billionaires need to push unwilling women's heads in their lap?

And the lady's claim does imply that she was so irresistible as to cause him to do that.

I know which explanation sounds the most likely.

@spendius,
That's what he's accused of. I said that pretty clearly.

(New emphasis.)

Meanwhile, I do place a fair amount of credence in the accusations. These are women who were sufficiently upset at the time that they took action, and were granted significant monetary settlements.

@spendius,
Right.

Actually, I'm hoping that it all turns out to be false and that Cain sails through and claims the Republican nomination. That'd be awesome.

@sozobe,
I agree wholeheartedly.

My preferences, in order, of candidates to get the nomination:

1) Michelle Bachman
2) Herman Cain
3) Rick Perry
4) Newt Gingrich
5) Mitt Romney
6) Jon Huntsman

I actually think Romney has the best chance of mounting a challenge to Obama, but I think Huntsman is the best combination of pleasant persona, reasonability and adherence to core values from all those still running.

@snood,
edit - Ah, pages behind

I've been avoiding all this, but that's some cartoon.

I don't like Cain re his presidency effort to start with, take him as irregular on manners, and if I read more may be seriously appalled. Or not - I haven't done the reading. How different is he re other men of his age and time and place? What are the levels of **** with which women both put up with and play - and from whom?

Can no one ever get elected because of a past paw? (I'm including women in that).

I'd call all this sanctimonious politization but I don't know either his deeds or the hearts of the accusers.

I think that I think this is all tangential.

No, the lady's claim implies he wanted, and expected, to be serviced in return for helping her find a job.
When she questioned him about what he was doing, he responded, "You do want a job, don't you?"
If true, her accusation indicates he not only sexually assaulted her, by reaching up under her skirt and grabbing her genital area, and by trying to push her head toward his crotch, he insulted and humiliated her.

Perhaps you want to keep the smear polished up.

Since two women received substantial financial settlements from the NRA, in response to their allegations about Cain, you can't assume that this information being made public is part of a "smear"--it is a matter of record.
