@Cycloptichorn,
You're in denial Cyclo. I presume you are an avid bargain seeker. It was quite a serious crime at one time. As was offering bargains.

The reason it was a crime was because the Church knew that the bargain habit would impose ruthless working conditions on those without a major in an 'ology. And so it proved. Bargain seeking, a diffuse cloud of energy transfers, is all gathered up and concentrated, like a beam of atomic particles can be, in the cyclotron on the other side of the check-out and the intense beam produced is fired up the apple-picker's arse. It's an improvement on whips.

The exact opposite is true, in fact. I'm a big believer in Quality over Quantity, and the old maxim that one gets what one pays for. I tend to buy many fewer items than my fellow travelers, but pay a higher price for higher quality, locally-made or locally-grown items.

@Cycloptichorn,
But there are high quality bargains too. They are posher. An outboard engine say for "ONLY $599.99".

I don't understand what this is supposed to prove, or how it relates to our current conversation. But that's pretty much par for the course for you, Spendi.

There are kinks to be worked out, no doubt.

(Not to mention rogue robots...I may have an idea for a sci-fi novel going here)!!

The Herman Cain campaign has raked in at least $3 million in October, says chief of staff Mark Block.
That bests Cain's fundraising tally for the entire third quarter of 2011.

Good. Maybe he'll get enough money to buy a clue.

@snood,
That's something like 1/10th the amount Obama raised in October... and supposedly people all hate him, remember?

The kind of clue Cain needs can't be bought with money.

Actually, although bonuses do not work with bankers, they do work with fruit pickers.

That you're not the socialist you like to think you are is what.

It's worse than I said actually. The CBS item showed the pickers in fairly heavy-duty protective clothing as if there are some substances in the environment of the "orchard" that are bad for them in some way. At 55F I guess it is pretty sweaty. There were helmets and face masks.

And in order to get the finest Californian sunshine into the taste required and the correct exterior finish needed to satisfy the discerning bargain hunter it is necessary to pick the apples before they are naturally ready to fall. They are tough little stalks before that and 8 hours of picking them off likely causes finger-end bleeding and cuticle irritation like that oakum picking produces or having to wear awkward gloves.

Any blemished apples are sent to orphanages as a special treat for the inmates sometimes with a bit of a fanfare. I bet White House apples are the best money can buy.

Yeah--like The Day of the Robot Apple Pickers where the robots run wild after being gassed up on Libyan Sweet and start picking people's heads off.

@Cycloptichorn,

Quote:
Obama's numbers are substantially better than any of his possible Republican opponents. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and Texas Governor Rick Perry, the best funded of the current GOP field, have raised $14 million and $17 million, respectively.

However it's worth noting that the somewhat crowded Republican field has divided many potential donors, with some big money people remaining on the sidelines.

In fact, the GOP field as a whole has actually brought in more - $90 million - through the end of the third quarter than Obama's total of $86.2 million. However, Obama's total figures from the Federal Election Committee don't count the money he brought in to the DNC.

That suggests that once Republicans unite behind their candidate, he or she will likely be able to keep pace with Obama's fundraising, though Obama's coffers will not be drained by a potentially drawn-out nomination fight.

<snip>

Quote:
But there is another aspect of the campaign funding that, though less visible, could prove crucial to Obama's reelection success. The funds will allow Obama's team to build an extensive network across the country to identify supporters, persuade independents and, most importantly, ensure likely Obama voters turn out to the polls on election day.

I'm hearing that the bolded bit is of most concern. Women and young voters in particular.

@ehBeth,
The good news is that the vast majority of Obama's funds - as opposed to Romney and Perry - have come from small donations. That translates to actual numbers of voters far better than the GOP donations will.

Even more good news is that Obama doesn't need to spend ANY money in the primaries. He can keep that entire war chest for the general. If the GOP nomination is prolonged or contentious - which is looks to be - much of the funds for the current R crop will be spent before they even directly attack Obama, and their largest donors, tapped out.
