This specific example illustrates the problem with the whole concept of mental illness. The problem isn't with the word narcissism, it is with the idea of "disorder". How can looking out for yourself, or caring about the attention of people around you be considered a "disorder"?
There is a fuzzy spectrum of whatever behaviors we call "narcissism" and whatever the opposite of narcissism is and there are billions of us humans who each fit differently on this spectrum.
The idea that you can draw a line on a natural personality trait that we all have and then call it "illness" has always troubled me.
I am glad when ever anything comes off the list.

What it means is that using the new DSM Narcissistic personality disorder will no longer be a billable diagnosis for insurance purposes, which is the primary function of the DSM.
That's the secondary purpose of the DSM, the primary one being to promote psychiatric drugs for specific "diseases" - and no drug company has any interest in researching anti-narcissism "medications". If there's no demand backed by hard cash, there will also be no supply - iron law of economics
@littlek,
Oh crap - I think she's right. I'm ******* SURROUNDED by narcissists.
Oh fer chrissake, Sophia . . . take a nerve pill . . .
