For me, it's the stuff that goes on, not the houses.
I love seeing the UPS truck driving around the neighborhood in the evening, going over the speed bump in front of my house. I love picturing all the people who are getting their packages from amazon, ebay, barnes and noble.
"YAY! My swim fins arrived!"
"Oh look, it's our Noni's Biscotti!"
I also love the karate club that meets in a house across the street from me, 2 doors down.
Once, after coming home from vacation, I was dog tired, had a bad flight coming back which put a little black cloud over the end of the trip. I was out in the front garden, puttering around, and I heard a "HI-YAH! UGGH!" Coming through the open studio window.
At that moment, I relaxed and thought "I'm home"
@chai2,
for me, having a crack house next door is comforting, no matter what the hour, day or night there's always someone coming or going. It's always lively around here.
@dyslexia,
I know, it's like you're never alone. Makes you feel safe.
Oh!
The Cars-To-Go are also increasing in my neighborhood.
I see them buzz buzz buzzing around.
Well, I like seeing all the landscape company personnel mowing lawns and raking leaves. I often go and get bags of compost material from them. Now that it has snowed 8" and -22F+, I like watching the hired snow shovellers doing their thing. We have people walking dogs around here, too - don't see many of them but the yellow snow at the end of my lawn is evidence they're out there.

Oh sure.
You probably go out there in your micro bikini, bending over to pick up those bags.
@chai2,
Were you spying on me, you beyotch?
I walk around our neighborhood a lot with our dog and down the street we
usually visit with Gus and Mac - 2 yorkies, whose owners work all day long and
the dogs feel a bit lonely.
There is one long window where the dogs can look out of and they're waiting
for us when we walk by and visit a bit through the glass (and make it dirty with
all the nose sniffing).
Oftentimes I see neighbors doing yard work etc. outside and we gossip a bit
before continuing our walk. We also have tons of kids around skate boarding
or just being outside and playing. People are in general a lot more outdoors
here, and I like that I know most of my neighbors and we stop and chat.
