Just found this thread because someone sent me the web address of the Political Compass. I agree, there ought to be a 'centre' answer. Even a 'don't have an opinion' or 'don't mind about this issue'.
I came out dead centre on the authoritarian/libertarian scale, and 2 points to the left on the other one.

Back in 2003, I wrote:
I ended up exactly where I'd expected to end up at: a clear way into the bottom left corner, almost exactly as much to the left as to the libertarian:

Economic Left/Right: -5.00
Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.90

Funny thing -- Stasia got this test on Facebook just now, so I took it again -- and this time, my results were:

Economic Left/Right: -7.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.56

Looks like I'm just getting more radical over time...

So I retook it too, with this results:

Economic Left/Right: -3.88
Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.82

I had noticed a small personal shift to the left in recent times.
It seems to be indeed small.

I started taking it again. But this time I got so annoyed with the "premise false -- can't answer yes or no" kind of questions that I didn't finish. That said, it's pretty safe to guess that I'm still a libertarian, although John Edwards probably has corrupted my purity as an economic libertarian somewhat since I last took the test. I knew something was wrong with me when nimh and I found ourselves supporting the same candidate.

Economical Left/Right -8.38
Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.13

above is my first time
now it's

Economical Left/Right -7.25
Libertarian/Authoritarian: - 5.59

I don't think it's such a big change.

It would, however, explain dys's mantra "vote early, vote often, vote Tancredo."

I think there was another thread on this more recently. (I'm not authoritarian enough to care right this minute.)

Aah, it was a Diest TKO thread.

That time I showed up as:

"I'm -4.12 on Eco/LR and -7.64 on SocL/Auth -- which puts me somewhat south of the Dalai Lama. Cough."

I suppose I'll take it again..
