@Ceili,
We are kinda dumb like that. Sharks we're fine with, and poisonous bugs, snakes, jellyfish, octopii et al, crocodiles, are fine - but a bear! Our mammals are cute and herbivorous.

@ossobuco,
Yeah, I do realise that, and I also realise there's probably some really prosaic parts of Germany and I want to live there... The main reason is that there isn't much of an arts scene apart from in Melborne. And I'm pretty skeptical of anywhere who claims to 'no longer be a cultural desert' having lived in Hong Kong for two months now. That's not a criticism of Hong Kong though, i like it here.

I do find the manner in which places just 'take people's fancy' and insticts about the places and cultures they find interesting turn out to often be quite accurate for them in some sense really interesting. I might make another thread about that.

I don't care if I never get further than the pub which is about 400 yards from my door.

Haha, excellent Spendius.

What a particularly daffy thing to say! And you haven't been here.

Australia is different - different to all those other countries. And the people are great!

Yeah I meant England. I find most of England very depressing.

@hingehead,
No worries mate.. I'm kinda scared of all the nasties you've got there too. We don't have many poisonous anything here in N. Canada. Personally, I'm more terrified of hitting a moose or deer on the highways than ever meeting a bear or a cougar in the wild. I've seen them many times and if you're smart, you can usually avoid them or at least their gapping maws. Wink lol

I've never managed to carry an entire cream tea for two without the use of a tray.

Mind you, I did once manage to carry two cups of coffee and five ring doughnuts whilst on holiday at a naturist camp.

@Old Goat,
Speaking of cream teas I've never had one.
I've also never eaten a steak and kidney pie.

@aidan,
Good for you, though I don't know what a cream tea might be. Surely, not tea with cream?

@roger,
It's scones, clotted cream, and strawberry jam - and you drink hot tea (never iced! Laughing ) with it.
Actually - I think it would appeal to me more if it did come with iced tea - seeing's how you eat it in the summer and everything.

I like the scones and the jam - but personally I'd rather have butter instead of clotted cream - so I've never bought a 'cream' tea.

They're big in the late spring/summer here in tea houses.

And as far as steak and kidney pie goes - I can't bring myself to try kidney - although they (the pies) do LOOK good and smell good- I just can't do it.

@aidan,
Sounds like something I might try once, just for the experience. The scones I've had were okay, but maybe they could use a little help.

Chai, I never French kissed a dropbear and don't ever plan to. Hmmm? How many of our Aussie sisters and brothers can make that claim??

Holy **** - are you my twin? I have gone on vacations to hot places but it's not FOR the heat but DESPITE it.

Add "don't care for conventions" to that list.
