On so many levels.

Apparently the "PC" crowd has taken a kids story and made it "correct".
They have ruined the story.

Quote:
Remember the childhood story “The Three Little Pigs”? Complete with animals, action, and some life lessons about not taking the easiest route, the tale has become a classic. And despite variations over the years, the core story remains the same. Until now.

A new version of the story is now popping up in the classroom as part of the the fourth grade reading textbook Storytown: Winning Catch 4. In that book’s version, the wolf has a sudden heart attack while trying to blow down the third little pig’s adobe house. The three little pigs rush to his aid, save him, and while trying to flee from him once recovered, realize that the whole “huff and puff and blow your house down” thing was a simple “lack of communication”: the wolf actually wanted to move in with the pigs and was testing each abode’s structural security.

@mysteryman,
Oh good grief, I was ready to be scandalized but I think it's more "PC" and reactionary to get three-exclamation-points-worth of upset about this.

There have been sooooooo many variations on the basic story -- big bad pig and three little wolves, etc. etc. It's not like the variations then destroy the orginal story which is never to be heard from again.

Meanwhile, this one isn't a masterpiece but it's not horrible either, kind of funny even. "Now say your line." C'mon. There's definitely some irony going on.

@mysteryman,
Sounds more like a parody than a PC alteration. The story is completely beaten into the ground and the kids all know it so someone tries to make it silly and off-beat. I see it more as the outrage crowd having a slow day.

@mysteryman,
I believe this is called "satire".

However, I'm on the non-PC left, and may not recognize right-sided PC angst.

The 4th grade in Mrs. Krauss' class, 9 years old,
was when I accidentally found the US Constitution in the back of a history book, while she was lecturing.

Thay shoud study the Constitution and learn to CHALLENGE AUTHORITY that and study fonetic spelling.

@George,
Yep, I can test on my fourth-grader later.

The story owes a big debt to Jon Scieszka ("The Stinky Cheese Man" and "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs").

This is a story from Politically Correct Bedtime Stories by James Finn Garner (1994). His second book is just as funny. Once Upon a More Enlightened Time: More Politically Correct Bedtime Stories by James Finn Garner (1995)

I bought both for my kids and they thought they were hilarious.

@all

This incident reminds me of the new version of an Esop's tale about two quarrelling cats and a monkey.

The old story was how a monkey ate all the share of the sweet which the cats were fighting for.

The new story talks about monkey eating the share and then charging the cats a big chunk of money for his help.

I guess Lawyers thought it was racist.

But it was all the monkeys who were disgusted!!

It's okay. Lawyers don't represent a race, so they're fair game.
