Why is it that so many A2Kers think that every topic should turn into a debate?

It seems to be the men who want to verbally battle. Is it excess testosterone?

I'm one of those who don't enjoy verbal combat. I loose interest in them once the pissing match begins.

I love it sometimes.

I don't want to turn every topic into a debate but I love just plain debating. Sometimes I'm more in the mood for it than others.

Other times I'm not particularly in the mood, I just strongly disagree and feel the need to say so. (I argue with the newspaper and the TV too. I've always been a major letter-to-the-editor writer. Just plain ornery. Very Happy

)

I agree with you, Soz. I was a good debater in my younger years and I debated without becoming an attacker. I found that will always loose the debate for you.

It seems to me that so many male debaters engage in extremely hostile verbal attacks. It's as if they enjoyed the fight more than winning the argument.

Maybe my reaction is female or old lady---or both.

I never debate, I hate debate; I'm going to buy some man pants and man up, maybe then I'll consider debating. In the meantime, I'll continue to assume that everything everyone posts is absolutely true and accurate.

sometimes I like to have a nice formal style of debate

sometimes it's closer to a rip-snorter of a fight

depends on my mood (and how annoyed I am with what's on my desk)

While the tone and approach may be different, I find the women on the forum easily hold their own, both on offense and defense.
