Why is it that so many A2Kers think that every topic should turn into a debate?

Yup, that's me, too.

I prefer the silly, human interest type stuff, I guess.

@Reyn,
And there you have it.

I don't think it's mostly a gender thing. Some men dislike debate, some women like it, and vice versa.

the only extremely hostile verbal attacks I've been subject to of late have been from BBB.

Now, are you asking about as the title implies, or is "extremely hostile verbal attacks" your concern? They are not the same, and some of your titles and/or content of the posts are certainly provocative.

You just might have set the baking forum up for an epidemic of vigilante trolls FM.

It seems to be the men who want to verbally battle. Is it excess testosterone?

Ah, hahaha

Maybe on the front end, it seems this way. But the women here do their part to keep every argument going for as long as possible.

@BumbleBeeBoogie,
The foundation of philosophy included mental exercises, verbal combat was one of them. It is not a spa, but through use, the mind works.
There are legit rules, however, the practice has degenerated commensurate with the participants involved. One can hardly expect otherwise.

A philosopher cooks his own meals.

This is hardly what I would call a good philosophy forum, however, it is what we have. We can either improve it, or whine that no one has served us dinner yet.

I would guess is that you really believe that one should learn by rote.

Uncontrollable anger, where it is due to testosterone levels, is caused by LOW testosterone. Excess testosterone causing aggressive behaviour is an urban myth.

@BumbleBeeBoogie,
I don't think we can categorize female and male behavior with any accuracy.
