I can't believe this! It is actually legal to publish a How To Manual for Child Molestors? I think it's just sick.

@Arella Mae,
I read about that on abc.com last week. I remember thinking, "well, maybe there is a book I wouldn't mind seeing burned, after all."

@Irishk,
I have to agree with you Irish. Surely, there comes a time when "freedom of speech" is harmful? It is true it seems, nothing is sacred. We now have books telling pedophiles exacty how to molest a child and why? So they can get away with it? Lord have mercy on this wicked world.

@Arella Mae,
Arella Mae- when I click on the link it shows a very interesting video of people helping flood victims in Pakistan. I don't know if you accidentally posted a different link or what, but although I was interested in and watched this one, I would also be interested to see the one you're speaking of if it's possible.

Thanks.

@aidan,
When you click on that link scroll down to the right and you will see other videos listed. Look for the how to manual for child molestors.

@Arella Mae,
Yeah - I can't believe it either. I wonder if they find the person who did it if they can charge him/her with something as far as using the images of the children without permission or something like that.

@aidan,
I have to tell you. I am so grateful I do not have children. I admire any parent who can bring their child up in this world but I am so grateful I do not have to face some of the things you parents do. My hat is off to all of you.

I do not understand how it can be legal for anyone to write an instruction manual on how to commit an illegal act. It seems so illogical and irrational to me.

I pray they do find out who this person is that wrote this book and do something about it. Children have so many things they have to be wary of in this world and unfortunately, a lot of what they need to be wary of is adults! I am so disturbed by this I am in tears. Parents, my prayers are with you. You are real heros as far as I am concerned.

@Arella Mae,
I saw the video.
The stabbing victims needed to be well armed; it was a matter of life and death.

I agree about being glad that I have no children (tho I do not dislike children; quite the contrary).
This has been particularly true when I have read of patricide.

I did not find the video to which u referred at first, Arella,
but following your subsequently posted instructions, I found it.
Since I have not read the manual,
I have no opinion as to whether it is illegal or not.
(Maybe it is a kidnapping manual ??)

As my late Law Professor Ellegard said of statutory interpretation:
" the first step in statutory interpretation is: READ THE STATUTE ! "
The same principle applies to this, or to anything.

I agreed with Mr. Smart about the wisdom of a child fighting back
against ANY kind of attack, including a sexual attack.
That applies to any person of any age, IF it is possible.
All my life I have been concerned with considerations of self defense.
I believe that, to the maximum extent that is possible,
every person of every age shoud be prepared to defend himself
or herself from predatory violence, be it robbery or sexual exploitation.
With that in mind, I began to carry a revolver everywhere
when I was 8 years of age. During my childhood, I was approached
by adults of both genders (at different times) for sex, and I rejected those
with whom I chose not to have that experience, accepting the ladies whom I wanted.
It was always enuf simply to say "No" in my experience
(or, in one case, to play a joke on a relative, rejecting his advances; I got a laff out of that).

It can be possible that this manual is against the law,
depending on what is in it. Free speech immunizes some things,
but not everything.

Permit me to offer this advice, Arella:
its not worth letting this hurt u in your emotions.
If u r unhappy, that does not help anything.
I hope that your life will be filled with as much joy as possible,
rather than the opposite. Your posts show u to be a GOOD person, kind hearted.
I don 't like to think of u being unhappy.

@OmSigDAVID,
That is very kind of you to say David. I am not unhappy. I assure you of that. Sometimes I hear about things that anger me more than others. Children being hurt by adults is one thing that really upsets me. Another is humans hurting helpless animals.

I am actually sorry for the person who wrote the book. What kind of a person could do such a thing? Not the type of a person that I'd want to be nor anyone else that I know. That person is sick. I have to believe that person is just sick.

I very strongly agree with everything u wrote, tho in my mind,
I extend that to children or animals being hurt by people of ANY age.

The same as people of all ages, children have been victims
and others have perpetrated horrible crimes, including murder and worse.

@OmSigDAVID,
In doing research on the rape thread I have come across so many horrible crimes. I was listening to a documentary today and it was so hard to believe. Four young girls, average age of 13, tortured a 12 year old girl for eight hours and then set her on fire while she was still alive. Some of these things just boggle my mind.

'Pedophile Guide' Author Arrested on Obscenity Charges

Published December 21, 2010

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The author of a self-published how-to guide for pedophiles that was pulled from Amazon.com last month after widespread outrage has been arrested on obscenity charges.

Phillip Ray Greaves, a 47-year-old retired nurse's aide in Pueblo, Colo., was arrested at his home by sheriff's deputies from Florida's Polk County and charged with violating Florida's obscenity law, a third-degree felony. During a brief court appearance on Monday, Greaves waived his right to fight extradition and was transferred to Polk County.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said his office was able to arrest Greaves on Florida charges because Greaves sold and mailed his book -- "The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure: a Child-lover's Code of Conduct" -- directly to undercover Polk deputies. Greaves even signed the book, Judd said.

"He very proudly sold us his personal copy," Judd told The Associated Press. "I was outraged by the content. It was clearly a manifesto on how to sexually batter children ... You just can't believe how absolutely disgusting it was."

Greaves told FoxNews.com last month that nearly 300 copies of his self-published e-book were sold on Amazon.com's Kindle Store in 24 hours prior to its disappearance from the site on Nov. 11. He said he also received more than 3,000 complaints about the $4.79 e-book, which seeks to make "pedophile situations safer for those juveniles that find themselves involved in them," according to the product description that was posted while the book was available for sale.

Greaves said he does not promote pedophilia, but that it "is something that I have sympathy for because of my own childhood."

Greaves said he was exposed to sex when he was 7 years old. "I was not molested, but I was exposed to sex at an early age … Sometimes those relationships are positive. No, I do not advocate pedophilia. I just feel that I understand it."

Pueblo Police Chief James Billings told FoxNews.com last month that his department would conduct a "cursory review" of Greaves' material.

"We have no indication that a crime has been committed," Billings said last month. "But we are looking at the situation to have a better understanding of what this book is all about and to see if there's something we should be concerned about."

On Monday, Laurie Shorter, a spokeswoman for the Pueblo County Sheriff's Department, said Greaves would be held in the county jail on the Florida charge. Another department spokeswoman said Greaves would leave for Polk County later in the day.

Greaves made a brief court appearance before District Court Judge David Crockenberg in Pueblo on Monday. Greaves, who was represented by a public defender, was the one defendant who did not wear a striped prison uniform during his court appearance, although his wrists were handcuffed in front of him.

Denver attorney David Lane, who has handled several high-profile First Amendment cases, said Florida could have a hard time extraditing Greaves, who is charged with distribution of obscene material depicting minors engaged in conduct harmful to minors.

He is entitled to a hearing where he can argue he should not be sent there to face charges.

"The main question is whether what he's accused of in Florida would be a crime in Colorado," Lane said. "Obviously, it's not a crime in Colorado because he hasn't been arrested here."

Writs of extradition -- the paperwork necessary to send somebody to another state -- are routinely signed by Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter, a former Denver district attorney. But Lane, who is not affiliated with this case, said it involves a different set of issues.

"Most of other extradition cases present clear-cut cases, the defendant was dealing drugs in that other state or some other crime that is also illegal here," Lane said.

Ritter's spokesman, Evan Dreyer, did not immediately return a message.

Greaves has no criminal record, but his self-published book of advice on how to make sexual encounters with children safe caused a flap when it showed up on Amazon in November. The book was later removed from the site.

Judd, known throughout Florida as a crusader against child predators, said he was incensed when he heard about the book and that no one had arrested Greaves for selling it.

"What's wrong with a society that has gotten to the point that we can't arrest child pornographers and child molesters who write a book about how to rape a child?" Judd said.

The book included first-person descriptions of sexual encounters, purportedly written from a child's point of view.

Greaves argues in the book that pedophiles are misunderstood, as the word literally means to love a child. He adds that it is only a crime to act on sexual impulses toward children, and offers advice that purportedly allows pedophiles to abide by the law.

Judd said he and his detectives got Greaves to sell the book to them for $50; he sent it through the mail and told officers it was his last copy.

"If we can get jurisdiction ... we're coming after you," Judd said. "There's nothing in the world more important than our children."

Some legal experts questioned whether Greaves' right to free speech would come into play if there's a trial.

"As bad as this book may be, the charge opens a very big Pandora's box," said Dennis Kenney, a former police officer in Polk County and a professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York. "The charge sounds to me like a significant overreach."

I do NOT think this book should be allowed so please do not take my statements to mean I am defending it.. BUT..

If this book should be banned, then every movie that depicts a rape scene should be banned
every book that has a chapter or paragraph about abuse should be banned
every tv show that has a part about a man beating a woman should be banned
all stories of drug use and sales should be banned...

we would pull shows like law and order
Simpsons
American idol.
Dexter
Sopranos

you name it.
A simple reference, or even an outline of an illegal crime is not enough to have something pulled. that IS freedom of speech whether we like it or not.

HOWEVER-
there IS a part of me that wants to see this book on the shelves.
Why?
Parents should read it. Period.
