Did the originator of this thread offer his point to his original post? Are readers supposed to know the originator's personality so well that they could discern the point of the thread?

Would it not make sense for originator's of threads to give his/her opinion of what the original post implies from his/her perspective? Otherwise, some threads seem to rely on a personal knowledge of the poster to understand any inference in the original post. I believe a posting that states one's position on a link, or copied material, gives readers something to chew on. Otherwise, are we just amusing the originator, or other readers, with our responses?
