Are you an after-Thanksgiving day Christmas shopper?

WHO STARTED CHRISTMAS?
WHO STARTED CHRISTMAS?

This morning I heard a story on the radio of a woman who was out
Christmas shopping with her two children. After many hours of looking
at row after row of toys and everything else imaginable; and after
hours of hearing both her children asking for everything they saw on
those many shelves, she finally made it to the elevator with her two
kids. She was feeling what so many of us feel during the holiday season
time of the year. Overwhelming pressure to go to every party, every
housewarming, taste all the holiday food and treats, getting that
perfect gift for every single person on our shopping list, making sure
we don't forget anyone on our card list, and the pressure of making
sure we respond to everyone who sent us a card.

Finally the elevator doors opened and there was already a crowd
in the car. She pushed her way into the car and dragged her two kids
in with her and all the bags of stuff. When the doors closed she
couldn't take it anymore and stated, "Whoever started this whole
Christmas thing should be found, strung up and shot."

From the back of the car everyone heard a quiet calm voice
respond, "Don't worry we already crucified him." For the rest of the
trip down the elevator it was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop.

Don't forget this year to keep the One who started this whole
Christmas thing in your every thought, deed, purchase, and word. If we
all did it, just think of how different this whole world would be.

Just saw the Garden Ridge stuff, had completely forgotten about that. Found the one closest to my house (not so close as all that, but close enough.)

Weird to remember what I was thinking a year ago. Pretty settled in now! (And not NEARLY as flat as I imagined.)

We put the bulk of our Christmas on lay-away in Oct or Nov.

I'm doing things early this year, have about 3/4 of the kiddie shopping done (sozlet + her cousins) and about 1/3 of the grown-up shopping done. Feels good! Hope to fill in most of the rest with homemade stuff, though not sure exactly what yet.

I usually pick up things all year long...
This year, I have not done anything!

I will probably hit the Galleria once and then the rest will be Target. Does anyone have Marshall's ? If yuo dig, you can find some nice items there...For ex: I bought 2 sets of Henckels silverware there.

15 minutes from the nearest Garden Ridge!
omigawd, i'd be there constantly

Make sure you check the outer edges of the store - they sometimes hide good sales there.

We went yesterday! Tons of fun. Got way too much, but it was only ~$30 for the 4 bags' worth of STUFF.

Always happy when I enter a store and see "80% off" signs.

I kept thinking of you as we wandered around.

Some of the things we got:

- Pre-made, unfinished wood birdhouse and weather-resistant paints (sozlet will decorate, xmas present for her bird-loving grandma)

- A bunch of foam stamps for 20 cents/ each and an ink pad (75% off)

- Some interesting ribbons -- I dunno what I'm going to do with them, yet, but they're pretty, kinda retro, and cost $1 for a big spool (also 75% off)

- A silk flower bouquet for sozlet (one of her many costumes is a bride outfit, and she thought it would make a great bride bouquet... she was allowed one purchase under $2.50, and that was it.)

- Craft glue

- A bunch of coloring books

- more, I forget

It was fun! Thanks for the tip.

Very Happy

that place is fun! you never know what you're going to find there. the day after any holiday seems to be good, cuz they clear their seasonal stuff fast!

i've also done well at Meijer's. Got great seasonal hand towels (that I use nearly year-round). Originally $4 a pop - the day after Thanksgiving - $0.25 ! I bought 16 and shared with mrs. hamburger and Setanta.
