Yes John the baptist was a
prophet and he is called '
Yahya' in the
Quran where the real true story and truth about him is told (unlike the fabricated corrupted biblical stories):
"At that time Zakariya (Zachariya) invoked his Lord, saying: "O my Lord! Grant me from You, a good offspring. You are indeed the All-Hearer of invocation. Then the angels called him, while he was standing in prayer in Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room), (saying): "Allah gives you glad tidings of Yahya (John), confirming (believing in) the Word from Allah (i.e. the creation of 'Isa (Jesus) (peace be upon him), the Word from Allah ("Be!" - and he was!)) noble, keeping away from sexual relations with women, a Prophet, from among the righteous.""
[Quran 3: 38-39].
"And Zakariya (Zachariya), and Yahya (John) and 'Isa (Jesus) and Iliyas (Elias), each one of them was of the righteous."
[Quran 6: 85].
"(Allah said) "O Zakariyya (Zachariah)! Verily, We give you the glad tidings of a son, whose name will be Yahya (John). We have given that name to none before (him).""
