I created this thread so we could discuss the bounderies of the internet. So here goes my first question: What ownership do people have over the material exposed on the internet?

@markx15,
What if someone else puts it on the internet, do you have a right to obligate people who are exposing it to remove the sensitive material?

@markx15,
The internet is bound by the digital millennium copyright act of 1998.

@markx15,
In regards to the internet, what should be controlled? Should the government have full control over our web content?

@markx15,
I agree, but some would argue about child porn and hate websites. What about those?

I guess my age is showing. Are those words clues to let us old geezers know that sarcasm was meant?

Child porn is illegal in the US.

outside, there's nothing our laws can do about it.

I can purchase a server in XYZ 3rd world country, and put whatever i want on it, and it's beyond the USA's jurisdiction.

Along the same lines, this is what torrent sites are doing to avoid the RIAA.

Unless the UN steps in, there will be no control.
and then, there's plenty of countries that ARENT in the UN either...

I don't think the government should nescessarily have the power keep it from being on the interent, but those that distribute it should be prosecuted to the fullest of the law. Simply being on the internet shouldn't protect them, and it doesn't.

Kind of like, the government doesn't have the right to tell me I can't go to the store, but if I go to the store and shoot somebody, I am going to get arrested and prosecuted for murder.

Completely agree. The day the internet is regulated ,which many of your neo-con globalists want to do, there will be an uprising. People are not going to take having no freedom of information and being forcefed neo-con rhetoric

@markx15,
It would be a great defeat for freedom of information if the internet is censored, it is the only possibly mass information vehicle that has the capacity to completly globalize us.
