The Covid-19 pandemic is officially over?

Tue 18 Apr, 2023 09:54 pm
Hi. Someone I know told me President Biden signed a bill to end the Covid-19 pandemic? Is this true? If so, since when? When did the pandemic officially end?

Did they concoct a physical cure for the Covid-19 virus?

Please help. Thank you.

@JGoldman10,
Where do you get your information from, snippets of overheard conversation on the bus?

Variousorganisations have developed vaccines for the coronavirus. They are controlling the virus, but it hadn't gone away, like measles hasn't gone away.

It's still there and like all viruses still mutating which is why certain groups are still getting booster shots.

Is it as bad as during the heights of the pandemic?

No, but another variant could emerge that does not respond to vaccination, or enough unvaccinated people could go down with Covid and make another lockdown unavoidable.

@izzythepush,
Please let me know when the world's chief scientists, chief medical experts and politicians involved concoct a physical cure for the virus.

Please let me know when they isolated, contained and destroyed all strains and traces of the virus.

That's what I'm interested in. Seriously.

@JGoldman10,
That's never going to happen. What Biden signed was an end to the emergency response in the US. There are vaccines available now, transmission rates have dropped and medical facilities can handle the case load now in the US.

@engineer,
This is an example of Mr Goldman living in an alternative reality.

Like you said, that's never going to happen but he thinks it's a possibility.

How can somebody be that unaware?

You were told repeatedly (but chose to ignore repeatedly) that making any kind of cure was difficult and that existing vaccines are the best way to control a disease.

That is what happened to smallpox. It is deemed eradicated from the world (no new cases since 1977) because everyone got vaccinated, but no cure was made.

I'm only responding because I'm tired of misinformation of the pandemic being spread.

It may be officially over, but I will keep masking at the grocery, church, any indoor function. I will keep a 5ft distance.

@JGoldman10,
It is definitely not over yet. In Victoria this week we had just over 6000 reported new cases. As we are no longer obligated to report positive tests - but strongly encouraged to - I believe that the numbers have to be significantly higher than this. I know quite a few people who haven't reported their cases, and very few people who have.

But even just 6000 is far more than we were getting at the height of the pandemic.

All the pandemic rules have been relaxed, masks are no longer compulsory except in medical settings, lockdowns are a thing of the past and social distancing doesn't seem to matter to a lot of people now.

But it's all far from over.

@cherrie,
At least the panic regarding the pandemic has died down since 2020. The way the general public reacted to the pandemic in 2020 before I moved was unsettling - I felt like I was in a bad sci-fi movie when I was out in public. It didn't help that when I went to doctor and dentist appointments before I moved that the PSAs I watched in the lounge areas of my old dentist's and physician's offices in 2020 felt like old propaganda movies.

Maybe I am a bit exaggerating but perhaps you felt the same way I did in 2020.

@cherrie,
I had a lot to deal with in my personal life on top of dealing with the pandemic in 2020. It was a somewhat difficult situation for me and I gave into depression. At least I didn't feel stressed.
