@Drnaline,
I disagree with your characterization of the Cold War. Sure, mistakes were made, but the war had to be fought. It's easy to find wisdom in hindsight. It's another matter to contend with the reality one has to face, at the moment. Our Cold Warriors did their best to turn back a tremendous evil, and they succeeded, for the most part. Thanks to Liberalism, we're conditioned to ignore the savagery of Communism, its many genocides, and sinister conspiracies against world peace. I salute anyone who fought the curse and cancer of Marxism. :headbang:

@Drnaline,
I hated those Stalinist assholes as much as you did believe it or not, but I think we won in spite of a lot of efforts not because of them. There were a lot of brave men and women who fought that war well and obviously we won in the end, but I think we really outlasted them, we managed our debts abd losses better than they did. I know three years in garrison split between Kansas and West Germany during the end of the cold war doesn't qualify me for much, but I grew up in it and it was a pain in the ***

Reagan real wisdom, was to force the commies to spend spend spend to catch up with us and force them into a debt that they could not handle...

.The left has just as good if not better a record fight the commies as the right. Kennedy went into Vietnam...I think he was wrong but he never backed down. Of course there was the Cuban missle crisis ....Johnson was a crooked a-hole but he was liberal and went to war....FDR fought poverty with the New Deal and the Nazis with a draft.
Truman fought the commies in Korean with the Marshall Plan ...so far the libs are kicking butt 5 to 1. The conservatives wanted to do business with them China and see what it got us
The problem with all these victories is they came with a price, riots and paranoia, hearings into things that were nobodys business and endless depressing movies about the end of the world
good night

@Drnaline,
Didn't North Vietnam win. Wouldn't that count as a loss for Kennedy?
What commies did Johnson go to war with?
What commies did FDR fight?

Liberals don't?
If the Libs take the white house in 08, how do you think there gonna fair with the war on terror? They gonna be able to do a better job without Gitmo, NSA, and the rest of the lot they say is unconstituional? The same left that allowed Kennedy to go into Vietnam and then forced it to failure will assure Iraqs downfall as well. I'm sure there will be some proud Libbys when and if that happens again.

Yeah, that'll probably be the only way the two wars are similar, so I guess the Libs will prove themselves right.

And since Drnaline didn't mention Truman, it was Korea that ended 20 years of Democratic presidency for him. Anyway Democrat isn't automatically equal to modern American liberals.

@Pinochet73,
Reflect on what LBJ did: in 1964, ran on a campaign adamantly against sending U.S. troops to Vietnam. In 1965, he did that very thing, and ramped up U.S. military commitment sky-high for the next three years. In 1968, knowing he couldn't get re-elected as a consequence, and fearing he would end up dying as a result of entangling his fate with that of the Vietnam War, as did Lincoln with the U.S. Civil War, he quit. Nixon had to get us out of 'Nam, and after we fled, the Communists slaughtered three million Indo-Chinese out of revenge. HILLARY IS A CARBON-COPY OF LBJ: WELL MEANING LEFTIST, ON THE EVE OF INHERITTING AN IMPOSSIBLE WAR, WILLING TO TELL AMERICA ANYTHING TO GET ELECTED. Watch it unfold in a near-identical fashion. Mark my words. :cavt-126-asard:
