@ossobuco,
Good point. You could also whack him with your key ring, especially if attached to a nice, colorful key lanyard. You don't want to make a get-away without either your purse or keys, so always keep your lanyard stocked with nothing but old, forgotten keys from the kitchen junk drawer.

@ossobuco,
Also, they used to sell little daggars disguised as belt buckles. Swell, if you really want to get into a knife fight with your pants hanging around your knees.

I agree that the brass knuckles on the purse will do you no good at all. Better to just bop somebody with the purse.

When I lived in the South Bronx and experienced (and survived--nothing like stating the obvious) a terrifying incident, I took to carrying an alarm. The alarm, which made a very loud noise, was in the purse. It was attached to a string, which was in my hand. Pull the string, and the alarm goes off. I also had a small knife in my pocket.

I finally had to give up the alarm. It kept going off at inopportune moments. I carried that knife for a long time.

@Roberta,
When I'm in iffy situations I walk with my keys in my right hand, with keys sticking out between my fingers. (Key ring is in my palm, then three keys emerge, pointy sides up, from between my pointer and middle, middle and ring, and ring and pinky fingers.)

Learned it in a self-defense class at some point, haven't had to use it (yet, knock on wood) but could do some serious damage.

One problem that occurs to me about the Jablonsky Exploding Handbag---sorry, I mean da Jablonsky Exploding Handbag: Where do you store the trigger? Most women I know would put it in their handbag. How do they set it off?

Thank you for the design ideas. The remote, of course, is tucked into one's cleavage.

@sozobe,
You might try hitting some things with that keys-in-fist idea.
Try something soft like a pillow first, then something harder--sofa cushion--old used mattress,,,,,,,,

I say this because someone I know tried it on a mugger and it worked, but the big key on the end pinched the hell out of her ring finger.

She says "Good luck ....

@hamburgboy,
when I was still among the employed and spending much of my days in the court I carried this as my brief case. It's an Israeli army paratrooper bag;

@dyslexia,
do tell....where did you get an Israeli Army Paratrooper bag Question Question

Once I worked at a place that made us use see thru, clear plastic handbags-afraid we were gonna steal?
In 11th grade I used an army surplus green canvas backpac.
In 12th grade I used a hippie wool bag, multi colored with a very long wool over the shoulder strap and then a beautiful brown leather over the shoulder bag from India.
Once I used a Guchi handbag, loved it, still have it.

@Philis,
That paratrouper bag is very similar to a bag I used to carry. Sorry Dys, something like LLBean.

I'm teasing. I am so very sorry I didn't save my father's parachute plus the silk.
He let me play with them.
