I've been to bed and done a day's work since I posted this. Why are some of you so condescending?
Allow me to lead you in the right direction... Read the book of proverbs (remove the God attribute, if you so choose) and the answer should slap you in the face.

I am trying rigorously to control my distaste for these sorts of salutations, as they seem to be a bit of a feature with a number of our new friends. Just seems to be a cultural difference.

But that did make me laugh out loud.

I don't recall Proverbs off by heart but by hell I can belt out some psalms.

No one is attacking you. No one is attempting to intimidate you. You don't come here with any guarantee that what you write will be taken seriously, or that what you write will not be criticized. It is not an attack to point out that this is silly and pretentious. But...apparently it was worth making a thread so that people could try to work out that Proverbs thinks you're an evil fool if you wink.
