So when does this thread come to an end, or who determines it's ended, so we can get an answer?

This reminds me of the garbage man challenge. No one wants to take the challenge, because no one can figure out what the challenge is supposed to be.

I think us old time A2kers are having a difficult time adjusting to the phily's version of riddles or questions. That we're all thinking "jesus, we've answered it already, what gives?"

I think it would be very friendly of the phily's to give us origies (originals) a couple of "get out of jail free cards" so we can start to make connections as to how we should be directing our thoughts to answer you.

I'm surprised some of the philys aren't over on my fear of clowns thread. Part of why I started it was to try to get some discourse going....the "why" of the fear.

If we can't at least get a couple of practice runs in, like us guessing to the best of our ability, and you saying "ok, here's were I was coming from, these were the clues" you going to get people giving up on even posting after a few more attempts.

You don't teach someone to play chess by just sitting them down at a chess board, and saying "figure it out" You need to tell them the rules, and the directions the various pieces can go.

Cut us some slack, and help a brotha out.

Hi A Lyn,
I am fascinated as to how you always manage to deduce in like fashion. I am so relieved that an intellect, such as yours is active here.
You have the crux, now deliver the resulting answer to this thread.
I would PM you with the "religious tag" reason. But it would likely supply you with the ingredients you lack in your resolve - so I will not reveal, as of yet.
You're brilliant, have an amazing day A Lyn.

Don't take this personal mark, I'm just gonna display some of my well know communication style....

THIS was the big crux?
What we were supposed to "dig deeper" for?
The fact that a secret displays there is information that's secret between people?

Major disappointment, apart from the fact that soz already covered that. At least I understood she said that.

Ok, I call the thread over, what was supposed to be the big deal?

This is like when someone keeps telling you how excited you're going to be about the great birthday present they got you, and when you open it, it's a pair of socks.

winking is creepy BTW.

oh, and as far as this line above, well, I wouldn't be one to say this, Rolling Eyes but others here would respond to that with a "**** you".

Hi Chai,
Thank you, I've just come back online, I'm in stitches here. thank you for that.
When I refer to A lyn's intellect, I don't mean the volume or vastness of - in comparison to any others, here or anywhere else on the planet. I perceive everyone as having equal intelligence, each in different ways, though. No, I meant the way she deduces - it is so similar to my way. Damn! I'm no better or worse than the next man (Just more handsome, maybe?...witty, charming, loyal, brave, etc, etc ,etc.).
This isn't a riddle. I'm curious as to how long it will take for people to deduce the root of this post's subject. It's not anymore philosophical than knowing the destructive force of "pride".

Don't cave in on this. Everyone of you will think "Oh yeah, it is too" when done.
I didn't think it would be a long thread, anyhow.
Chill out, and have a remarkable evening all of you.

If you encounter any earthworms, be sure to wink at them!

Some people just wink because they have something in their eye, or because their vision is better in one eye than the other.

Hi Hex,
What is the underlying root of all of these displays.
Uhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!?!?!
..I think there are 2 main answers to you, but I'll only give the others.

I lies in the human nature to simplify things, like winking instead of verbal communication, specially under certain conditions where language isn't in common, then a wink is a unversal understood way of communicating.

Often people wink to be discrete, when verbally expressing themselfs would be too indescrete and at times, vulgar.

@sozobe,
Quote:
There seems to be an assumption that there is a Singular Wink, the True Nature of which you have figured out. I don't think that's true.

Me winking at my kid randomly: "Hi sweetie, I have nothing specific to say to you right now but here's a little piece of private communication to let you know I think well of you."

Me winking at my friend as she's about to give a speech: "You can do it! Don't be nervous. I'm rooting for you."

My husband winking at me when I utter a "that's what she said" sort of line: "That's what she said -- but I can't say that in front of the kid 'cause she'll start asking what I mean."

Me winking at any number of people: "Yes, I was being ironic."

And that's, like, 10% of the possible meanings of winks I give or receive in everyday life.

Couldn't have said it better.

You prevaricate; I've never seen you have spelling problems. You are probably always masking your inner misspeller.

@ossobuco,
Actually "origies" is more given to typos and letter transposition.

Seriously, I often choose type words I can spell than the ones I would use in conversation. And the ones I use conversationally are (hopefully) the ones I can pronounce.

Well ye-ah.

The whole, "we have a secret, little or big, between us....we are part of the same group" thing.

Not that complicated.

I guess that how religion, military, organizations, whatever are.

we all have our secret handshakes.....wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more...nods as good as a wink to a blind man, eh, eh? He asked him knowingly.

I sure hope mark's final post on this thread is a wink or else this has to be one of the most annoying displays of smug self-importance I've seen in this forum.

Oh and mark, you have a super-duper splendiferous day yourself.
