@north,
Yes, many misunderstandings. As I said, I am content with the simple understanding of "nothing". It is merely a word that means "no quantity of the previously specified object". But "nothing" without any specification of what the word applies to in any particular context is just meaningless.

In your case, I must agree. When you talk about nothing, you are unable to talk about anything else. Then, in your case, it must be a waste of words. Unfortunately, this makes your talk about anything else also a waste of words.

What you don't realize is that nothing is the only way by which being transcends itself, which condemns you to never transcend yourself, as everybody here has been witnessing so far.

@guigus,
Guigus, nothing you say in an attempt to insult me has any effect whatsoever. It is because you have demonstrated so effectively that you are a self absorbed idiot, and so I just don't take you seriously anymore. So bring it on. It's quite entertaining actually.

Sorry, but I didn't offend you: I just described your attitude so far, as well as its consequences.

It would be much more productive if you stopped fighting and insulting and became a little more "self-absorbed" for a change.

By the way, you never took me seriously, so never mind.

@north,
Nothing is just everything, despite being its negation: it is the way by which being negates itself so it can change.

Which explains why all simplistic, naive conceptions of nothing result in a static, boring world---just like some people.

The only way we can enjoy such a conversation is by realizing it is a conversation about everything. So you are missing a lot with your attitude, no matter how much you smile.

@guigus,
You do seem oblivious to the fact that concepts need their relations in order to have any meaning.
"What's on the tv?"
"Nothing"
"Oh, good, I've been wanting to catch the news all day, and if nothing's on, that means everything's on, so the news must be on..."
How does that compute when you turn on the tv and there is no broadcast? The point you continuously ignore is that your rambling has no relevance to reality.

It remains boring until you realize what nothing... is.

You remain incapable of understanding that nothing is ambiguous: it is the way being negates itself, which it could only be by being both a being and a non-being (it still is the same "nothing" you are talking about). You must get your mind out of jail ant accept this contradiction in the heart of nothing (and of being), or you will simply miss what I am saying.

@guigus,
I get what you are saying. But you are making something simple much more complicated than it is, and looking for profound secrets where there are none. In a more modern slang; you're full of ****.

It is your simplicity that is complicated, leading to an endless collection of insoluble paradoxes, which is what I call ****. And don't fool yourself: you do not understand what I am saying: when I say nothing is a being, you hear me saying that nothing is no longer a non-being, as if it could not be both---because your mind is locked in the nineteenth century.

Do you really believe you can discuss philosophy for hours without letting the people you are discussing with to know how you think? Sorry, but what kind of idiot are you?

(So you thought you had found the perfect place to hide? Sorry to disappoint you.)

Like I said, I am guigus proof. No need to apologize.
And if you really did know how I think we would not be having this argument. But I'm having fun pressing your buttons, so keep it coming.

@mark noble,
If a "thing" exists, then a "no thing" must also exist.
Ah, but probably only in the mind....
