We were to have 50% chance of rain in Houston area all day long today. Apart from a few stray clouds, it has been dry on my side.
Just looked at the TV report. Heavy rain is moving across downtown. It doesn't look as though it will reach us up here.
Alex is now a Cat 1 hurricane. It looks like rain bands are sweeping the entire TX coastline. Landfall expected to be early Thursday in northern Mexico as a Cat 2 storm.
The last local forecast makes it seem Tomball will at last get rain after 6PM today. Unfortunately, it is predicted to be a deluge. Gee, fellers. All we need is half a inch or so, to water the plants.
Disgusted. I bet we don't get any rain here.
@edgarblythe,
Alex headed due west, slamming Mexico with now 100 mph winds. It could be bad there.
You are right, rjb. I saw a TV report from Mexico earlier. Lots of the houses they showed were thrown together with any material that was handy. Some had felt paper pieces for siding. It won't be pretty.
Two days after the storm made landfall in Mexico, the rain has settled over Tomball. I plan to watch the local TV weather in a few hours to see how Houston and Galveston are faring.
@edgarblythe,
Just what we don't need....
A td developing in the Gulf.
The conditions this year are exactly what the oil spill effort does not need.
There is a potential for a second tropical storm to form in western Caribbean Sea July 5th and 6th with an impact on the oil slick similar to that of Alex.
Analysis
A tropical weather system is moving across the Caribbean Sea this morning (Saturday, July 3, 2010). The satellite image shows an extensive area of clouds and associated showers and thunderstorms. So far, winds are about 15 to 30 mph.
One computer model tracks this tropical system to the Yucatan Peninsula Tuesday with maximum winds of about 45mph, so it has the potential to become the second tropical storm of the season.
The impact across the Gulf of Mexico oil spill will be to push it to the west and northwest. Initially this will ease the amount of oil affecting the Florida coast, but increase the impact on coastal Louisiana.
@edgarblythe,
The orange one got stronger since this morning.
@realjohnboy,
That's the one got me a little concerned.
@edgarblythe,
Suddenly there are 4 storms on the NHC site.
They show on my last pic post
@edgarblythe,
Here's the tracking map for Invest 96
The local weatherman said that the low near Florida may move near us in Houston and be joined with Invest 96. However it plays, it will be a messy week coming up.
@JPB,
Some computers have this one entering Mexico on the television.
Well, they did this morning. Just now, they said it appears headed squarely for Texas.
