That's very true.

If the people can't cope with the kid, he's likely better elsewhere. Perfectly decent people can be unable to cope with very traumatised kids...their placements break down all the time, sadly.

But it seems to have been disgusting, the way they did it. Yikes!

As for FOUR days with a kid.....what a joke! The really difficult behaviour usually emerges a long time after that.

What four day period was that ?

@OmSigDAVID,
The four day period mentioned in your opening post:

They told the paper that Mrs. Hansen
spent four full days with Artem under the eye of adoption workers
before she was allowed to adopt him.

i agree, FAS isnt reversible
happened before with ruassinan adoptees

".....For Beth and Bill Cole, it was a situation out of their control. Their son, adopted from Russia, has Reactive Attachment Disorder and Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

At times, they say, he's violent and dangerous.

"Stabbing, shooting, burning down the house - pretty specific threats," said Beth....."

I see; thank u.

Is there anything in particular that moved u to suspect
that Art is beyond professional help ?

(Let me say that I intuit the same suspicion,
but my lack of psychological training renders my intuitions worthless.)

@ABE5177,
We don't KNOW he has foetal alcohol syndrome, do we?

I thought of it as soon as I read alcoholic mother, but has it actually been diagnosed?

Apparently, if the Russians diagnosed it,
thay did not reveal that diagnosis.

@ABE5177,
It's interesting to me that people who have seen these behaviors up close and personal don't doubt the women's story.

And that they think help is so easy to find.

It's tragic about your nephew.

Thank u for that link, Abe; it was very impressive and on-point.

I sympathize with those families.
I hope that science will learn
how to repair those brain functions as soon as possible.

That 's a very important point, Abe.
Everyone needs to be safe in his own home.
If a family member repeatedly threatens homicide,
that may undermine your sense of serenity & well being.

Picking-up the phone when the adoption agency kept trying to call to check up on her would have been a start on the road to finding help.

@OmSigDAVID,
I remember at the height of our problems, telling Mr. B "if you treated me like this, I'd leave you".

overwhelming can be simply overwhelming, over, facts are obviously missing.
