@Thomas,
I need clarification here. Isn't the word 'probably' more in the vocabulary of the weak atheist?

Because the best I can hope to demonstrate by my exegeses is 'probably'. Sure, my personal belief is to me a certainty, but I can't cause you to believe it any more than I can have you taste the IPA I plan to enjoy with dinner. You'd have to taste it yourself.

And no, I'm not sharing . . . .

@Thomas,
Quote:
No. Acknowledging that one cannot prove the nonexistence of gods is pretty standard among atheists. Similarly, mutatis mutandis, for atoothfairyists, awitchcraftists, and aspaghettimonsterists.

Which is not the point. The "PROBABLY" concedes the entire case. As I have explained numerous times although I sense Thomas has me on Ignore in order that he can continue with his baby talk.

Pascal explained it as well. It's quite simple.

Yes, the bus campaign backfired on them bigtime (as did the disgraceful waste of 150,000 GBpounds/ 242,000 US dollars)
By saying God "probably" doesn't exist, they're admitting there's still a chance that he DOES exist..Smile
It's like them playing Russian roulette and saying "I needn't worry because I probably won't blow my head off when I pull the trigger"..Smile

@Thomas,
The trouble seems to be, to me, that believers are taught stuff about atheists, as I was too, as a young catholic, and many posters here seem to have been.. This thread, dare I mention yet again, was meant for atheists to converse. Now we have 349 pages of people trying to argue with us instead of letting us talk, all that probably due to Spendius at the time (no, I haven't looked back, but he's incessant).

There were and still are many other threads about atheism, but this one for us to talk got marshmallow bombed.

So if we wish to talk, we get to talk to people with balloon ideas of what we think.
Meantime, atheists can differ too but the last large batch of pages have been discourse with neologist trying to work his way.

Start your own threads.

It's true a large number of atheists aren't interested in arguing about nothing, so this should be a relatively quiet thread except for the takeover.

Haha is this an open discussion forum or not? You atheists are always welcome to come into Christian threads and get your asses busted, but it seems you want to ban christians from this Atheist thread, cluck..cluck..cluck..Smile
At least you're fulfilling yet another prophecy-
"They prefer teachers who only tell them what they want to hear" (2 Tim 4:2-4)

PS- I went through a phase of being an atheist in my teens but it didn't last long--just a week or two-- because i felt so bloody STUPID!
I mean, no matter how much I tried to poo-poo the Bible and its thousands of eyewitness testimonies, I just couldn't do it..Smile
This is how i felt-

@edgarblythe,
I disagree with you AND osso(pretty rare)

This forum is open to all and threads are too.

If an atheist can't handle a religious post they shouldn't be posting on an atheist thread.

I always keep one thing in mind.
The more a religious poster professes a deep faith; the more they suffer from a lack of it.

@panzade,
The thread was very nicely begun by little k for atheists to gather. Although anyone can post on any thread, as it stands with the present incarnation of a2k, it was asked that people have enough consideration to let us do this. But the others had to pile on until little k left in disgust. There is no logical reason why every single thread has to be totally screwed over, with the only justification, I have the right to post anything I like here. You would think people were civilized enough to show a little restraint.

@edgarblythe,
When religious threads do not want non religious comments I generally keep away, unless the whole purpose is to argue it out.

For the record, I prefer talking with atheists. They understand some fundamental truths not easily admitted by those shackled by run-of-the-ill religions.
1] When you're dead you're dead.
2] The history of organized religion is inundated with the blood of innocents.

Ah, but God's gun is not!
You can happily fire 6 blanks from your own gun at your head on judgement day, but your smile will soon vanish when God takes aim at you and says as he pulls the trigger-

"Right, you've had your six"..Smile

Hey atheists you can enjoy watching me slap JW Neologist around! Here goes-
Jesus said to his mates at their last supper:- "In my fathers house are many mansions, I'm going on ahead to get them ready for you, then i'll come back to take you there with me.....I will not drink wine from now on until I drink it anew with you in my Father's kingdom." (John 14:2, Matt 26:29)

So heaven could be desribed as "the party that never ends", but if Neo doesn't want to come he doesn't have to, in fact he already said in another thread- "I'm not aiming for the "pearlies".." (Neologist 23 Sep 013)

No problemo mate, if you don't want one you can stay behind with Neo in a doghouse or something..Smile
Meanwhile God leaves the invite on the table for anybody to pick up-
Jesus said- "The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son...he told his servants- go out and invite to the banquet anyone you find" (Matt 22:2)

That's the spirit mate, I'd rather live in paradise with a thousand straight-talking atheists rather than with just one boring fundy religious crackpot!
For example between you and me I'm hoping Ozzy Osbourne makes it through the pearlies, I ROFL'd when I saw him on TV looking at special-effects bubbles blowing across the stage during rehearsals and saying- "******* poncey bubbles?? I'M NOT HAVING THAT!! I'm supposed to be the Prince of ******* Darkness!!!"..Smile

Jesus wants MATES, that's all- "You're my friends if you follow me. I don't call you servants, but I call you friends"- (John 15:15)..Smile
So yeah, I like him and wouldn't mind hanging with him, for example he used to bust the snooty priests asses bigtime and told them-
"You're full of ****!"
