@spendius,
It is good that you can take so much fun out of it...probably on the third pint you may even be up for a confession in the nearest church, who knows...that would make your day ! Wink

Why spendi makes this into a topic about sexual behavior says less about atheism (or religion), and more about spendi's sexual depravity (or more likely his deprivation).

Why io makes this topic into soylent green says less about atheism, and more about how he views the human race.

Both individuals, however, represent the kinds of obstacles atheists encounter in daily life. I feel sorry for anyone who thinks that their belief in gods is the only thing keeping their sexual behavior in check, let alone damming back their violent urges.

@failures art,
It seems spendi has the need to include sex in every subject he involves himself in. It makes him look like a dysfunctional man who can only express his sexual appetite on these boards.

@failures art,
My experience fa of a very long series of debates in pubs and elsewhere with militant atheists is that there are sexual motives at the root. If you debate with the same people over a long time other things come out.

Your smears and sneers are wasted on me and you must be a very slow learner not to have discovered that yet. They are worthless foam from the mouth and offer nothing to contradict my position.

In its starkest terms a practicing abortionist would have to attack the Catholic Church to maintain self-respect. Most of his/her staff and the clients too. Then there's sex before marriage. Then artificial birth control. Divorce. Adultery. Homosexuality. Eugenics. Women priests. And with a constituency of that magnitude to milk atheists are not making much headway.

The law covers most other things so there isn't anything to argue about with the Church that doesn't also argue with the law.

You are in danger of taking the person in front of you as an item off a production line. All you see is what is there in front of you. I take the history of the person into account.

@spendius,
actually, Spendi, the catholic church is the business model for corporate America.

and part of why we are in over our heads...

@spendius,
A rather dull reply spendi. Atheism is not about abortion, sex, birth control, divorce (marriage for that matter), adultery, sexuality, eugenics, or gender roles. It's a lack of belief. Nothing more.

Better to analyze why people become theists, than to examine why they aren't.

"Militant atheist" is oten a term used to guilt atheists into subservience.

I would argue that it used to be true during the period of American expansion and that you are now in over your heads, as you say--not me--because you have a new business model based only on personal greed. I don't see how increasing secularisation can end anywhere else.

Like Mandy Rice-Davies famously said--"he would say that wouldn't he?"

An uncaused cause eh? Simply due to superior intelligence and the ability to see through the beliefs of 92% of Americans who are then logically defined as of inferior intelligence including every president I've read about.

People become theists by accepting the values of any theistic society they were born and brought up in. As the society fragments due to geographical and occupational mobilty such forces are weakened. That happens more to the rootless city dweller than to those in rural communities. And Media is city based. And its denizens are notorious for rejecting Christian sexual teaching and for trying to justify that rejection negatively by attacking the teaching rather than positively promoting their own sexual morality which they often find themselves apologising for. Even crying real tears if the occasion demands.

Obviously, this is the expression of your own troubled view of sexuality.

I'm not surprised of such assertions from a citizen of a puritan country, with a background known for moral contradictions.

Atheists don't need to promote anything, just assert their way of life, different from hypocrite religionists..
