Some religious readers of this thread, concerning the use of the word 'enemy' in reference to Christianity, ought to know, without being told, that the reference means the dogma when it is being force fed to us, and to those who would do the forcing. It does not mean every religious person reading here. Why they have to be repeatedly told, I don't know. But, they take offense and have to break in indignantly every few pages.

@edgarblythe,
I got a lovely flyer in my mailbox today that says plainly

A MESSAGE FROM GOD

It's a three fold A4 that opens up to begin:

'I am the LORD, I change not (Mel 3:6) HOLY, HOLY, HOLY IS THE LORD OF HOSTS (Isa 6:3) ...'

And so it goes on with bizarre mix of font sizes, case and bolding for the entire page.

But there's no branding, no contact address, no way I could follow up if I wanted to talk more to God. I have to admit to feeling a little cheesed. Moses got a burning bush and I get a laser printed sheet of A4? Clearly God does play favourites.

I really wanted some follow up, because even the first line 'I change not' seems to be a fib, I thought God changed his ideas quite a lot. I can't imagine the God that sent his son as a sacrifice was unchanged from the God that drowned a planet in a fit of pique. Oh well, maybe he'll find some time to write again soon.

There is a particularly large font bold passage near the middle that says:

Seek ye the LORD while he may be found
Which is somewhat concerning, is he planning on going somewhere else? He has a use by date? Or is a victim of an expanding universe?

I'll scan it and upload if there's any interest. I think any communication from God is well worth sharing, it's been a couple of thousand years since we last heard from him (depending on who you believe).

Mondays are so odd.

@hingehead,
Did you have to pass this message on to 5 people within a set time frame, hinge?
So's you could be really certain of being saved?

I keep getting similar messages in my mailbox about "angels" who will look after me. IF I do the right thing & pass the message on!

Yes!
And gentle persuasion would most likely be much more effective!
This sort of thing gets my back up against God! Wink

Faith is an emotion. Are you saying faith is the enemy of reason and that faith in no God is less than faith in God ?

@Ionus,
Atheism, at least for me is no faith, not faith in no god..

@Francis,
People have a switch...it is either there is a God or there is no God. Depending on the switch as to how the vacumn is filled, but your mind and faith will be filled by something.

@Francis,
Aetheism for me is faith in one's self.
This life is the one chance you get.
Whatever you do with this life is up to you. For good or otherwise.
No promises of "salvation" in any afterlife. We have to make our own meanings, resolve our own conflicts, right our own "wrongs" in this life.
So it kinda makes sense to live an ethical life, to be at peace with one's self, yes? Smile

@msolga,
Certainly, msolga, and sometimes with higher ethics than religious people, whose behavior makes our lives a hell...

As the saying goes: the road to hell...

No. It makes sense for an Atheist to rape and murder and get as much pleasure as they can...better to die trying than live in poverty.

Why do I imagine that statement coming from someone in a gay bar drinking something with an umbrella in it ?

@Ionus,
That is my own living definition of aetheism, Ionus.
And may I say, it is not the easiest, most comfortable path one could choose.

You comments make absolutely no sense to me. What evidence do you base them on?

Pure nonsense.

On the other hand, by the way the thumbs down keep going, I can see that the religionists are lurking...
