I am very happy to drop in a spray a few gallons around in both of those alleged 'capitals'. You name the spot, I'll supply the bladder-full.......

Why thank you, Stilly!

So kind of you!

As a matter of fact, I have this mandarine tree in my back yard which would really appreciate your efforts. I hear it does them lots of good!

It's not exactly a major downpour, but I'm almost wetting myself with excitement here! Laughing

Haven't seen as much as a drop of rain for so long.

You should hear the the happy birds warbling away out there. They're having a party! Very Happy

@msolga,
How about the fire area? Can't remember if it's hilly..
in southern california we get supercallifragilistic mudslides. Oh, well, those have multiple causes, not just fire and rain.
Anyway, enjoy it....

@ossobuco,
Hi osso

I'm checking the weather info online right now. But like I said, this is not a major downpour .... but it feels so good to actually experience rain again! It was becoming a fond, distant memory!

The good thing for the fire-prone country areas is that the temperature has dropped over the past couple of days & the (utterly hideous) winds which have fanned the blazes have slowed down.

@djjd62,
Not 100% perfect, but definitely a big improvement!:

@msolga,
Nope.

Some showers have been ordered to arrive here, but I see no evidence of them.

@msolga,
Today at work I passsed an open window and smelt rain. I could SEE none, but I could smell it.

Tonight, walked out into very light misting RAIN!!!

It was so soft you felt you could dodge the drops floating to earth...but it had managed to loosen the dirt on the car, and coat the streets with moisture.

Drove home and it continued to drift down...occasionally needing windscreen wipers.

When I got out of the car, it was as though the trees (especially the eucalypts) had been holding their breath for eighty days, and had finally exhaled in unison...the most wonderful scents...overall the elixir of lemon-scented gum (anybody who has not experienced this wonderful smell can never imagine it!) dominated.

Oh bliss!!!

I can only hope we have some decent rain to follow.

I so hope you guys get it tomorrow, Msolga, instead of more hell.

Yes, I heard about your rain, Deb! Just fantastic! Enjoy, enjoy!

Thanks for your wishes for tomorrow. It's the incredibly fercocious winds that are so dangerous. I'm almost longing for winter. Anything for this terrible time to be over & done with!

I heard a report on the radio the other day - explainining what had happened to Victoria's "normal" climate expectations (& SA's, too, most likely). This "expert" explained that our usual (temperate) weather patterns were now a thing of the past & that we should stop talking about "drought" as though this was some sort of an aberration from the norm. He said our (Victoria's) weather had "moved south" & was now influencing the Southern Ocean. And that we are now dealing with much warmer climatic conditions & will continue to do so into the future. And that we'd better get used to the idea & make the necessary adjustments.

@msolga,
Yeah...we are certainly drier than we were.

But hopefully things aren't going to be quite this bad normally!!

Jeez I hope not, too, Deb!
I so hope this "expert" was wrong!

(I wish I could remember the details. Like who he is, etc. But what he said has stayed in my head & worried me enormously since.)

@msolga,
Been worrying the crap out of me for at least ten years...since I first looked at the global warming projections for Australia.

Given the complexity of the task, I was hoping they were wrong.

SA is simply unfeasible, I think, at the last couple of year's rainfall.

And I am worrying about the whole country, really. Been envisaging almost all of us as refugees!

Then I decided to do what I could and try to stop worrying.
