I can understand your feeling like that, Deb.
But then, in the current circumstances, the problems are sort of glaring us in the face! Shocked Sad

I want my old, beautiful Victoria back! The Victoria I love! Waaaaaaah!

@dlowan,
I love Victoria. I love Melbourne. I'm very parochial, I know, but I do.
I wish this devastation would just stop. Now! Enough is enough.

@dlowan,
Thanks, Deb, even though I am not personally in one of the fire-threatened areas, Embarrassed I needed a hug. Yesterday was a bugger of a day at work, and, driving home in what felt like a ferocious gale .. with seemingly non-stop ABC radio messages about "personal fire plans" (residents deciding whether to stay or go, etc) & constant reminders of the likely 125 kph winds in fire-endangered area ... well, it felt a little like the end of the world as we know it! Wink (A 1/4 of the state was blacked out last night, too, as a result of wind damage. Perfect ending to a horrible day. Neutral )

I am happy to report that (after a good night's sleep) I awoke to find that it had rained in many parts of Victoria last night! Very Happy That all the existing fires have been "contained". And that we are in for a much cooler week (top of 19 c today! Surprised) so the job of getting the worst of the fires well & truly under control (extinguised even?!) is looking good. More rain appears to be on the cards, too.

What a difference a day makes!

Thanks again, Deb.

Wow! About 5 minutes ago (just as I was taking a load of washing out to the clothesline on this balmy Saturday morning Wink ) .... the sky blackened over with heavy clouds, the temperature dropped dramatically & now it's raining cats & dogs out there!!!! Wow, was that so sudden! Surprised

Let's hope it pours & pours & pours & pours .....! Very Happy

@Kat09,
you folks have got to learn more about artificial RECHARGE of all the excess rain.
Even here in the humid Eastern US, weve been creating water conservation programs that help out in our cycles of drought. During times of excess rain, omly about 25% of the rain actually soaks back in to the ground to recharge the ground water. By using runnoff directional waterways and recharge basins and "porous parking lots" weve been able to increase this to almost 40%. When you figure that we get (average) about 40 inches per year, that extra 6" of rain fall recharge means an additional (approx) 1.8 million gallons of recharge PER ACRE. This helps in providing normal stream flow for longer drought periods, and, in most cases these fixtures are pretty much self maintaining between semi annual scourings and cleaning. When you have a lot of runnoff, you should consider that wasted water

You do (live in Melbourne)?
Me, too!
And yes, it's incredibly wet at the moment.
This is going to take some getting used to!

Haven't seen you here before, Kat. Welcome! Very Happy
