Have you seen this video on HP facial recognition softwear?

Strange, huh?

@boomerang,
Is this really racist, or a technology problem?

i.e. does the bright florescent lighting in the background interfere with the tracking characteristics?

I would want to see a test in a controlled situation to determine whether this is the way the system was programmed or the way it is being shown.

what is the purpose of the software

if it was used for security purposes and it only followed the black guy he'd say that was racist too

i'm gonna have to check on this software (i'm thinking of calling shenanigans on this video)

@Intrepid,
I'm certain it's a technological (read as software) fault.

I'm sure it's just a glitch. Desi had a good sense of humor about the whole thing -- I don't think he was really accusing HP of racism, just pointing out that their camera didn't recognize his face.

@boomerang,
Though it makes me wonder if the software developer actually tested their program for this kind of major coding flaws.

Fascinating. I'm not techno-savvy enough to make any guesses as to why the camera acts as it does but it's a thought-provoking glitch.

@boomerang,
Kinda tells you about the demographic makeup of HP's coders.

@boomerang,
Maybe it's gender biased and only tracks women. Smile They need more testing.

@rosborne979,
Now there's a great guess! Everyone's been hipped on the race angle, nobody's mentioned sexism.
