Why are dogs afraid of thunder and cats not?

@dlowan,
Oh, I love our thunderstorms! If there's not too much lightning, hubby and I like to go out in the rain and prance around the yard. That is, if we can pry Miss Fraidy-Pants off our laps (80 lbs of Pibble Dog)!

Usually storms hit in the summer, late in the day, when you've been sweating all day. It's delightful to feel cool again with the rain, and the storms are very dramatic; beautiful!

@Ionus,
Heh Heh! Actually we DON'T have our clothes on, which is the point.

Neighbors can't see us on our secluded 2.5 acres.

It is possible that dogs dont like the growl of thunder whereas cats have a higher pitched threat sound.
