@fansy,
I'd say that it could be a synonym for any of these three, Fansy, with B & C more likely, IMHO.

A. wisdom
B. knowledge
C. experience

@JTT,

It's not a synonym for any of them. It's a bad question. The questioner is illiterate.

And, in my view, stupid.

As illiterate as Contrex and me, McTag?

Nice to see you out and about again.

Just find the antonym for sophistication...then you'll see spendi is right.

So you are happy that "delicacy" is an acceptable synonym for "sophistication", are you?

And there was me thinking that the Abram Battle Tank was a sophisticated weapon of war.

@McTag,
And anybody who knows anything about battle tanks know how delicate are the systems which they depend upon to operate.

For shame, you blaggard. You spend your time slinging quantities of ordure at Contrex, except apparently when it doesn't suit your book.

No, I didn't comment upon that notion at all, McTag.

What's your problem with Battle Tanks being delicate. You must have only seen them in movies where they never malfunction unless the script calls for it.

Get one delicate adjustment wrong in real life and they start getting into sitting duck mode. And that's no good is it?

@McTag,
That book is called the truth, McTag. When Contrex spews some bullshit about language, ordure is in order.

I agree with this assessment, except for the part where you claim the questioner is illiterate and/or stupid- that's not necessarily true.
S/he can obviously read and write at least somewhat functionally.

Two changes I would have made:
1)I think expertise should have been one of the synonyms given
2) the use of the word 'level' with the descriptor 'little' doesn't work- that part of the sentence should be reworded.

@aidan,
I tried to understand the choreography as well as I could with my level of sophistication, which was very little at the time.

A. wisdom
B. knowledge
C. experience
D. delicacy

==========================

I agree with McTag's assessment that I could have chosen a more accurate word than 'synonym' but other than that, I believe that McTag is mistaken, Aidan.

The word 'sophistication' entails worldliness , and this word encompasses A, B & C.

One of the antonyms for 'sophistication' is naiveté, the quality or state of being naive. One who is naive can lack wisdom, knowledge or experience.

The sentence is an unremarkable example of everyday speech and it should be treated as such. Of course, it could be refined any number of ways but that doesn't mean that such is necessary.

ESLs/ENLs have to learn all registers of English.
