I heard my teacher say shemale performance is quite popular in Thailand. I don't know if shemale is the correct way of describing such people. Could anyone tell me?

Assuming she's not referring to a sexually ambiguous hermaphrodite or transsexual, "assertive female" would be a better phrase.
She, he, it - often abbreviated "****".

intersex is the new "correct" term, i think.
shim is what i grew up with.

I actually know someone, right here, that used to use "****" in documents. I've often wondered if she ever forgot to use "Search and Replace" before printing it out.

performance" she's probably talking about what is commonly called a "drag show" in America.

I'm not at all sure what your teacher means by that term.
I thought everybody knew about Thai lady-boys. "Shemale" is a slang term like "tranny".
Yes, ladyboys, in the field of entertainment anyway.
