@ebrown p,
If I happen to run across something silly I'll may say something. I'm certainly not following you around anywhere.

Maybe you just say a lot of silly stuff? Wink

Well, in that case, I'll fess up. I haven't bought a single gun or bullet since the campaign started, lo these many years ago.

O, but, Osso: we can delight in
the lyrical poetry of the argument -- the light, mental dance.

Did u give them a fair chance?
Just keep the muzzle pointed down range and open up when u r ready.

Submachineguns really are tons of fun.

Yeah; its been quite a few years since last I added to my gun collection
out of security considerations. More recently, my acquisitions
have resulted from esthetic or historical interest -- or fun.

Yeah; guns are health insurance.

That 's unpredictable. Predators (both human and animal)
have killed out of non-mercenary sadism.
In a predatory emergency, it is better for the victim
to have full control of the situation.

Ok, David, I still think you are off base and travelling to Yonkers.

I would have been interested in a discussion about this, too.

I know, dys!

Perhaps you should try again, on another thread, & make your intentions really, really clear? Wink

@msolga,
Dys is already clear. I may address the actual question (I thought I did, oh, well) but got off to a digression, which interests me. Not all that sorry, and I'll probably post more digression.

But re Obama effect..

- paranoia about liberals or proto centrist presidents who are taken by righties to be way lefties
- paranoia about gun enthusisasts who aren't irresponsible or, eek, terrorists of one kind or another
- routine when Dems are elected (I've no idea)
- more pro Obama veiling of their real agenda (not my pov)
- fill in your own blank

@ossobuco,
Back to David -
my father and his crew were the first to photo shoot down the center of an atom bomb explosion. At the least, he was away from home then, when I was something like five and a half. At the longest, I'd like to talk to him now about all his reactions to that. He was a philosophy major in earlier years. He had a lot of health and, I understand now, depression difficulties just about the time we could begin to really talk.

The denouement is that I'm chary about weapons and their proliferation, though I admit not really wanting to stop science. I never think of any of it as fun, say, re movies.

I voted for Obama and have also purchased a new gun and several thousand rounds of ammo since the election.

2 main reasons. 1) The chances that Obama or the democrats will do something about firearms to either reduce their availability or make them more expensive to buy or use is obviously increased when they controll all the branches of government. 2) The economy tanked and crimes has risen as a result.

I know several people who voted for Obama and have since bought guns for the first time as well.

You'd be wrong to characterize this as being an all right-wing behavior.

@maporsche,
I didn't mean to characterize it as all right wing, or I did but was just riffing. That was my first thought, but I get it that I was short sighted.

Then, it only stands to reason that the makers of guns and ammunition support Democratic candidates. I'll vote for a Republican in hopes of keeping prices down.

Shoud we get into the habit of making our own guns and ammunition ?
AK 47s are fast and easy.
