How can I describe the period between 1951 and 2000?Is it "the latter fifty years in the twentieth century", "the second half of the twentieth century" or something else?

Thank you.

Either one of those expressions would be perfectly acceptable.

You might also refer to it as the Age of Setanta, since i was born in 1950.

@Setanta,
Well, that's how I always refer to it, of course.

@jinmin1988,
Second half of the 20th Century is probably the more common expression.

@jinmin1988,
In a way it was a preview to what was going to happen in the new millenium. The extensive technological advances, including the space program, and the rise of old colonies to a new nationalism. It also ushered out the end of manufacturing in the U.S., as part of the next millenium. Just my opinion.

@Foofie,
That's not what jinmin was asking, Foofie. This is strictly about language, not what the second half of the century was all about.

I realize the headline makes it sound as though a description is desired. But if you read the actual question you'd understand that it's a language question, not a socio-historic inquiry.

@Merry Andrew,
I was just thinking that Foofie's response was quite useful. Highlighted a pet peeve of mine about ESL/EFL.

The original post gave two examples that coincide with your interpretation; however, it was followed by, "something else?" I gave something else. I hope I did not offend your possible orthodox interpretation of the original post. Nor, did my post in any way counter others' posts.

Perhaps, I should have included, "A Segue to the New Millenium"?

"Old" being a synonym for "prior."
