Is CMOS pronounced as "see moss"?

I think I've heard it pronounced so it would rhyme with "close" or "dose" rather than "moss".

I have a friend who has worked as an IC designer for 25 years and he pronounces the -MOS part of NMOS, CMOS and PMOS just like the word "moss", so CMOS sounds like "seamoss", NMOS sounds like "ennmoss", and PMOS sounds like "peemoss".
