wild-card elimination off to a shaky start...

Quote:
Wild-card game stopped after call

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Braves played their NL wild-card playoff game at Turner Field under protest
after fans littered the field with trash over a disputed infield fly call that led to a 19-minute delay.

Trailing 6-3 in the eighth inning Friday, the Braves appeared to catch a break when a fly ball to short
left field dropped between St. Louis shortstop Pete Kozma and left fielder Matt Holliday after a mix-up
over who had it.

But just before the ball dropped, left-field umpire Sam Holbrook signaled an automatic out because of
the infield fly rule, designed to prevent a team from intentionally dropping a popup in order to get extra
outs with more than one runner on base.

Instead of Atlanta having the bases loaded with one out, Andrelton Simmons was called out. The fans
immediately started hurling cups and trash, covering the field.

Yay! Good to see he landed a mgr job so quickly as he's a very likeable and skilled guy. He deserves a good chance.

@Ragman,

interesting that he only wanted that job, or he would've stayed @ ESPN.
that tells you all you need to know about his falling out with the sawx...

@Region Philbis,
Oh, it was clear from some media comments...tossed around by top brass afterwards...that all was not as hunky-dory between owners and Tito or verse-visa. He was too much a gent to indicate. I'd love to see him totake Injuns to playoffs really soon.

And in his recent past and historically he had deep ties with the Tribe (as did his dad).

hmmmmmm.

with the game on the line, Girardi pinch hit Eric Chavez for A-rod.

and the night before Ibanez pinch hit for him.

as the highest paid guy in baseball, that seems odd.

and bodes ill for spankee fans next season...

A-Rod benched by Yankees for Game 5 vs Orioles

"NEW YORK (AP) -- Alex Rodriguez will start the New York Yankees' biggest game of the year on the bench.

After being pinch hit for in Games 3 and 4 against the Baltimore Orioles, the $275 million third baseman was removed from the starting lineup for Game 5 on Friday..."

I have a question...

and the answer is probably the union.

why can't and don't the yankees void A-rod's contract based on fraud.

Alex has admitted to using performance enhancing drugs during the period that the trade was made.

without the illegal drugs, he is not the guy they traded and paid for...

and it would make the players think twice about cheating.

hit 'em where it hurt$...

@Rockhead,

a voided contract would not hurt him financially.

as long as teams are willing to pay these ridiculously exorbitant amounts, (some of the) players will continue to cheat the system...

ok.

it's early, but hey...

who do you like for the world series this year?

I like Detroit and the Reds.

rooting for SF, but I don't see it. damn that Zito...

Angels over the Nats.
reds are lookin' strong these days.
they've just about weathered the storm of not having votto...
the nats might need another year or two to get seasoned.
the rays could very well be the AL representative -- if their offense wakes up...

so the top two teams record-wise (nats + reds) have been sent packing.
now we got tigers-yankees, cards-giants.
i'd like to see a tigers-cards world series, but i get the feeling it's gonna be yankees-giants...
