while we wait for the second half of the season to get underway, i'd like to toss this out there.

i wish fans would stop booing the opposing pitcher every time he throws over to first base to check a would-be base stealer.

it's part of the game, people!
it not only plants a seed of doubt in the base stealer, but also throws off the timing of the hitter.

fans: if you're going to boo that, why not boo every foul ball?
or how about every time the pitcher wants a new baseball?

@Region Philbis,
I think we should boo whenever the opposing pitcher exhales. Inhalation is okay, though.

Those Red Sox fans must be tough. The rule of thumb at Wrigley is that the opposing pitcher gets two straight throws to first base without pitching to the batter. More than that and he gets booed.

@joefromchicago,

i'm noticing it more and more, and not just @ fenway.
i can understand booing after 2 or 3 in a row, but the first one?
it boggles the mind...

@Region Philbis,
they traded Betemit today. for nothing...(a light hitting catcher in A ball)

Butler will be expensive for someone to acquire.

but I'd like to see it happen.

career DH's never sat well with me...

And with that the Pirates are in second, soon to be fourth after their impending road trip in St. Louis and Philly.

@Gargamel,
That's still lots better than last place, where they've toiled for the last decade or so.

The Atlanta Braves (and its ancestors) got there 10,oooth win this past week. Two other clubs achieved that mark. Who?

@realjohnboy,
Seems like the answer should by Yankees and Dodgers. Something inside me says Orioles and perhaps even Cardinals too. I think Red Sox might be around the 9000-win mark.

@Region Philbis,
Cool! Thanks for supplying. I wasn't all that bad at my guesses, huh?
I was pretty wrong about the Orioles.
I never thought about the Giants, though. I totally forgot about their earlier days as the NY Giants and their long history, etc., being the prisoner of the moment that I am.

Gawd that sports trivia stuff fascinates me. I need a life!

@Region Philbis,
The WBUR show "Only A Game" said that the Braves joined only the Giants and the Cubs. They seem to have left off the Dodgers and Cardinals.

And they'll soon join the Phillies as the only teams with 10,000 losses.
