It's a shame that Santo didn't live to see the HoF old-timers committee reject him yet again for entrance to the Hall.

a major shake-up of closers in the AL east was narrowly avoided yesterday...
Quote:
The Red Sox offered reliever Mariano Rivera a two-year, $30 million deal and were prepared to
non-tender closer Jonathan Papelbon, according to a baseball source with direct knowledge of the negotiations.
Rivera turned down the Red Sox to return to the Yankees, who offered the same money as Boston.
The Red Sox on Thursday night tendered a contract to Papelbon, who was paid $9.35 million last season
and is arbitration-eligible, which will drive his salary into eight figures. Papelbon is a year away from free agency.
By any measure, the 30-year-old Papelbon had the worst season of his career in 2010. His 3.90 ERA was more than
a full run higher than in any of his previous five seasons in the majors, and his eight blown saves were also a career high.
the Yankees and their captain were hoping to finish a contract that would pay Jeter
approximately $17 million a year for three seasons with an optional fourth year at a lower salary,
although those terms were among the details still to be worked out.

hmmmmmmmm...
is Jayson Werth really worth $126 million over 7 years?
this might be an interesting set of Winter meetings...
The Titan (A-Gon to you merricans) is a Red Sox now.
Good news to everyone.
I'm wondering <hints to Pantalones> if, with that huge contract, Adrián is going to invite his cousins and his cousins' online friends to his Boston debut. I think he should.
