haven't been in nyc in decades - sure it isn't the same it was .
first time was about 1970 - stayed with ehbeth in a fleabag hotel ( that's what others called it ) near "needlepark" ( of course , we didn't know and never had a problem there ) for a whole week - 2 bed , bath and cupboard kitchen for $ 12 A NIGHT .

our biggest exitement was seeing this group of feisty musicians for the first time in the mid -70's - we saw them several times thereafter - they even played right here in our small city at one time .

of course , they have changed too , still that music just gets to me .

there was JACK DEMPSEY'S restaurant ( the great boxing champ ) . he'd sit with his drinking buddies in a corner of the restaurant , greet his customers
(rather , they'd greet him !) and sign one of his "fight scene" postcards for everyone .

anyway , i hope you find something you'll like ... now to the music ...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rH0x-YqtCrs

and a modern versions of the band ... of course , you have to like that kind of music to enjoy it ... and it needs a big crowd of people to swing , sway , sing , dance ... don't know if that's to your liking - it's not chamber music !

... he'd sign it : "best of luck ! jack dempsey "

@ehBeth,
Tasty Hand-Pulled Noodles Inc.

http://images.nymag.com/restaurants/cheapeats/2009/cheapeats090720_3_560.jpg

1 Doyer St., nr. Bowery; 212-791-1817
In and of itself, the opening of another hand-pulled-noodle joint isn’t exactly major news. But this humble little spot has several things going for it: an open kitchen, where the young noodle-slinger is on full, athletic view as he bangs, twirls, and separates the dough into discrete strands; an extremely friendly staff who proffer apologies when your order doesn’t materialize in the standard three minutes; and table garnishes, like fresh cilantro and pungent chile oil, that transform the soup. The noodles are springy and tender, the broth meaty but not heavy in the least. And should you feel like forgoing hot soup on some occasion, we recommend the knife-peel noodles, thickish shards pan-sautéed with cabbage and scallions and topped with the protein of your choice. At $7, the seafood medley is the priciest thing on the menu.

@kickycan,
Oh stop with the JCPenney poop and give us an update on your romantic life.

You are planning to take Shewolf out for a nice dinner when she visits your city - aren't you?

I wouldn't, when she was here all I heard from her was the importance of eating healthy food, I took her out to dinner and she had lobster, t-bone steak, a double order of french fries and a beer.

@shewolfnm,
Apparently you don't actually have to be a stripper, you just have to tell him you're one.

Dys, she was telling you to eat healthy. It had nothing to do with what she eats.

Your point being what? (He asked, having walked past a health food store this morning that prominently featured organic vodka.)

I have a doctor's appointment on Friday. Not sure if I'll be able to join you. Would like to.

Thomas, please let me know what the plans are. If I can come, I will.

No, no. Please don't move it because of me. Thursday is worse, and Wednesday is another doctor's appointment.

The problem is that on Friday the appointment is very early. I'll have little or no sleep--and the same amount of energy. If I can get home and take a nap, I should be fine.

Does it go without saying that I need someplace CHEAP. Saying it anyway. CHEAP. Also not too noisy would be good. My audibility is an issue. That's of course assuming that you wanna hear me. That might be viewed by some as a mixed blessing.

Please keep the date Friday.
