People of different nationalities

Reply Wed 29 Apr, 2009 01:03 pm
People of different nationalities attended the conference. They met to know one another better and to promote world peace.

A friend of mine told me that 'People of' is not needed, but I think it should. Is she right or am I?

Many thanks.

@tanguatlay,
I agree with you. A nationality doesn't attend a conference.

It would be more comprehensive if it was "different nationalities and cultures."

I think both are okay, your friend's version being slightly less formal. "People" is understood and may be omitted.
