WHAT IS THE PROPER DEGREE OF FIDELITY TO MARITAL BRUTALITY ?

Last nite, I watched The Purple Rose of Cairo, staring Mia Farrow in 1985.
I 've liked Mia Farrow since the 1950s; she was younger back then.
She has alwasy been sweet n pretty.

In the movie, she was married to an ugly thug of the 1930s.
He was an unemployed parasite on her (she was a waitress)
who insulted her, openly chased another woman in front of
Mia 's character called "Cecelia" and occasionally beat Cecelia.
He boasted of his generosity in warning her first.

Later in the movie,
she found a good looking guy who treated her
with love n proper consideration and who wanted her.
She declared her marriage to the thug.

We know that a marriage legally continues intact until a court
of competent jurisdiction says otherwise, but MORALLY . . .
did she owe loyalty to her abusive husband ??

WHATAYATHINK ?

My own vu is that at some reasonable point,
she was morally within her rights to turn her back n walk away, in hope of better things.

Perhaps it was that she was loyal to the sanctity of marriage.

There are thousands of couples who stay in rotten marriages only because the church fobids or frowns on divorce, or they are ashamed that their marriage didn't work out, or even because of social standing, money and of course, the sex might be awesome. And some people are afriad of being along or not having a man 9or woman).

Who knows why people stay together. BOTH of them seem sick, if you ask me.
