There were much larger experiments later. For example, they gave a letter to someone from the Massai tribe in Kenya and told them to get it to a professor at Harvard --it took 6 connections or less, always. Quite an amazing thing, really.
I should not be up yet, this is unfair. I am a conscientious objector to employment. Zzzzzzzz.

WAITA MINUTE-You have to explain the relationships. How do you relate to Harry Conick. Heres an examp[le of a PROPER (3) DEGREES OF kEVIN bACON

1 R Gentel is an Edgar Allen Poe Fan.

2Poe wrote "The RAven" which, when made into a film starred Vincent Price and featured Jack Nicholson (1962)

3jaCK nICHOLSON WAS IN "a fEW gOOD mEN" (1992) with Kevin BAcon

I did a 3 Degrees of Kevin Bacon to RG. Can anybody do 2?

I sold Harry Connick Jr. a car wash.

So there.

I spoke to him saying "That's $25.75" and he said thanks.

I had no idea at the time he was Harry Connick Jr.

After he paid, he stood around looking all stuck up, and after awhile I started looking at him because I was bored. I was just about to say to him "You know who you look like? That Harry Connick Jr. guy." I'd been debating saying it for a few seconds, since I was thinking it would make him look even more stuck up, as he was noticing me notice him already. I was thinking I didn't want to feed into this guys ego any more than it already was.

Then someone came up and said, "here you go Mr. Connick Jr." and handed him some keys.

After that, I totally wished I had said that to him.

@chai2,
Let me try to connect Robert Gentel to Kevin Bacon.

1. Robert Gentel played a chess game on A2K with me, Wandeljw.
2. Wandeljw's daughter, Katrina was in the movie "The Lake House" with Sandra Bullock.
3. Sandra Bullock was in the movie "Loverboy" with Kevin Bacon.

@chai2,
It wasnt that I did not believe you, its just that one should establish ones connection and the circumstances of that connection to Kevin Bacon.

I once was in an elevator with my mom and Andy Devine . She didnt know who Andy Devine was and I did. I got his autograph and my mom was giving me the beginnings of **** for bothering people.

@wandeljw,
So far weve got 2, "3 degrees of Kevin Bacon. Did your daughter have a speaking prt in the "Lakehouse" movie?

I wish we could have a thread about the 6 degrees , but itd only be good if it involved A2K members.

Thing is, how would we know? Except for a half dozen or so, I could be passing anybody here a dozen times a day on the street and never know it (I'm pretty sure that I'm not passing the NM contingent every day, but others, who knows)

@MontereyJack,
But we can try other famous personalities... that is quite doable, eh?

My daughter worked as an "extra" in the restaurant scenes. They dressed her up in fancy clothes and jewelry and sat her at a table. The restaurant was closed for the filming. My daughter had to stay there from 6:00 at night until 4:00 a.m. the next morning. They filmed several different restaurant scenes all on that one night (most movies are filmed like that because of high production costs). Sandra Bullock sat near my daughter while waiting for different shots to be set up. My daughter told me that Sandra Bullock has a wild sense of humor and is a very fun person to be with.

@MontereyJack,
So someone start a thread, it could get interesting.

Hmmm, I've associations through no fault of my own with a fair number of famosos (famosi?), and some of you know me.. (Hey, Sky King signed my autograph book when I was nine).

But people also don't have to be famous (what is fame, anyway?). The concept of six degrees is amusing even sans the celebrity element.

@dlowan,
No, you'd just say Mr. Connick.

I believe you use it when referring to someone if his father is still alive.

Like, Sammy Davis Jr., whose father was a well enough known dancer. Sammy Jr. started dancing with them when he was really little, like 5 or something. I'm sure it was away to keep it less confusing.
